Us smart Dems forsaw it while you dumb Repubs swore the so-called 'war' as win-able and the right thing to do. Are ya'll pulling in your fangs yet or do you need worse to happen before you admit it was a bad venture?

It would be difficult to make a bad situation worse but Bush and Blair managed it.

I am independent to be honest so I have views that are both liberal and conservative depending on the topic. I think the Reps did not play nice with others because they had control of the Senate, House, and Presidency. They had no need nor willingness to listen to outside advice nor compromise with each other.

That being said, it was the poor planning of Bush & Company that the war is where it is. They attempted to fight the war on the cheap. Gen. Shinseki said that 500,000 troops were needed to pacify Iraq and was fired for it. So we used about a quarter of the troops and we are where we are. We planned for the best but that was it. Our political leaders were naive in assuming that the kids would throw roses at us and Iraq would be a bastion of democracy.

At the same time, I think it is infantile of you to call Rep "dumb" and the Dems "smart". As of now, you all do not have a plan to get the job done. I find it sad that you Dems are dancing around the fire pit because the Reps failed. Last I checked, we were not the Republican States of America nor the Democratic States of America. We are the UNITED States of America. When one party fails us WE all fail and suffer, regardless of political affiliation. It is just as SICKENING that dems are gloating about our policy failure as the witch hunt that Clinton was put under by the republicans over where his penis was. Look, get it together. Stop with the silly party affiliations and just start looking for presidents and leaders that care about making our country stronger, safer and more prosperous.

I guess I'm a dumb Dem, then, because I don't see the war as lost cause unless guys like you just absolutely refuse to shut up. The president has certainly screwed up, and training of Iraqi troops and keeping them in the government fold are way off where they could be, but training experienced NCO's, the backbone of an army, takes experience, and therefore time. Selling federalism won't be so hard once some of the nervous armed groups are assured a degree of safety by Iraqi forces.
I see no reason to get in a big hurry since we're there. This sort of war generally takes 10-30 years, and it's certainly still possible to get the government up in a decade.
On the other hand, many of the insurgent groups are focused, as was Giap in Vietnam, on American public opinion, and public political gloating like yours is worth a month's IED's to them. I fail to see how trying for defeat is good for us.

Hi,

With approval ratings lower than whale crap, and that's on the bottom of the ocean, it is apparent that the bush whackers er I mean backers are definitely in the minority now.

With less than 30% favor, means that all the smart repubs have seen the light and have dumped the chump er I mean chimp, or rather bush, as evidenced by the outcome of the mid term elections.

The only tactics that will work now for the bush backers, are:

"Lie, deny, accuse, and name call".

How does the saying go?. . . . Wise people will change their minds, but fool's have no mind's to change.

For Brooke B, . . .think you got it more than a little turned around, I have yet to see any Iraq civilians jumping up and down and cheering bush for having their homes destroyed, their loved ones slaughtered and their city's lying in ruin with what appears to be outbreak of civil war with death toll way above anything that happened under Saddam, . . . . . . . .and for what?. . . . (oil?)

Many say they were better off under their previous leader, at least they had homes and a city to come home to, and the Iraq people were never and are not now terrorists, . . . .they are the victims of bush's war for oil. . .and are paying a deadly price for it.
But. . . .no . . . .we do not see all of that in the news.

My view I am proud to be an American. I am PROUD TO LIVE HERE AND have the FREEDOM to complain. Most people in the USA do not even vote and if they do they do not do any research...How many times did your state senator turn up to vote and a matter that concerned you?? I bet not much..The problem is way deeper then Who Is wrong...It You are Wrong...You avoided your responsibilities in finding out WHO is DOING Their job...
No war is Win-able...everyone looses..but you my not friend lost more..because you have never taken the time to look at the facts that come with FREEDOM!!!

I doubt most Democrats want to claim you. Every war can be won but at what cost. The President & Chiefs of Staff will make that call not someone with your "intelligence". I wonder what your solution to Iraq wanting nuclear weapons is? Oh yeah, you do not have a solution only a criticizm. Very helpful - hummm.

If this country grows a piss yellow streak down it's back, then we shall see how smart some of us are and are not. All this whining might give me a headache if I took any of it seriously. But you see...here in the really real world, there are bad men who want to kill all westerners who don't join their church. And burying your head in the sand, squinching your eyes shut real tight won't wish them away. They have been living inside our borders for many years. And if they are allowed to follow the path they have been following for decades, you may find out that taking the fight to them and being a big brave strong nation might have been the right choice.

Don't make it about Democrats or Republicans. Not all Republicans voted for going into Iraq, and some Democrats voted to go into Iraq. George Bush may have screwed up, but what's most important is that we SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! They are the one's responsible for keeping these nutjobs under control. Listen to Glenn Beck sometimes on CNN headline news...

The sad thing is that civilians in the US are only subjected to the news... where "if it bleeds, it leads". You don't see all the Iraqis that are thanking us for being there and helping them. You don't see all the good things we've done. The news only likes to focus on the bad things. It's a war, of course people are going to die... it's what we've VOLUNTEERED to do. I joined the service, knowing full well that I may die for my country... and am ready to do it if need be. Just don't focus on just what the news shows... realize that there's a lot more happening out there than you realize.

Wow... seems a lot of people on here can't handle the truth and are giving me a lot of thumbs down. Hmm....
