While placing my six month old son in the new car seat I had just bought I locked him and my keys in the car. As I was in a multi-story park I asked the attendent if he could help. He offered me the brick they kept for just such emergancies and I smashed a window. My son Oliver never missed a beat. A few weeks later my wife accidentally locked him in the house.

Honda's got a really good solution for that. You can't lock the driver door by pushing down the button unless the door is shut- so you either have to be in your car, or you have to have your keys and lock it from the outside. Saved me more than once!

I used to quite a bit almost 30 years ago. I got a spare door key just for that and kept it in my wallet. One time I locked my keys AND my wallet in the car. I then put the spare on a separate key ring and hooked to my back belt loop. I learned from that mistake.

One time, it was when I had a saloon car and the boot was still open, I managed to climb in the boot / trunk and force the back seat enough to allow me to reach the rear door and unlock it. I was parked on a busy street at the time and a passer by saw me stretching through from behind the back seat, they must have thought I'd been locked in the boot and tapped on the window to ask if I was allright - how embaressing.

I always keep a spare key on my wallet, the 'really smart' people keep one in the glove compartment. I finally learned when I left the car running and locked the doors, It ran well.

hahahah this makes me remember a very very bad day i had last summer. i went to play tennis like 15 min away from my home. i took my car ofcourse i was so much in rush that while i was taking my racket out the back seat i left my key in the back seat while picking up the racket. not that i realized at that moment that i left my key in the back seat. when i came back to go home i knew either i lost my key while playing or i left it in the car. finally i show it in the back seat. i had another set of keys at home walked 40 min came home took a cab back and got my car back home. it was one hella of a funny moment.
