Maybe you can check with your neigbours to see if they are willing to help u out for just 4 days. Perhaps u can put the tray and litter box outside your apartment and have your neighbour help feed your stray.
I am sure you will wanna see him when you return from your trip ya? Great to know that you are taking care of a stray.

How old is the cat? A kitten should not be left alone for too long so I would ask someone, a close friend say, to take the kitten in for the time you are away.
A grown cat may be left alone in the flat as long as a friend is prepared to let the cat in and out and to feed and water him and to empty the litter tray.
Otherwise buy a multiple day feeder ensure plenty of fluid and many litter trays, and the cat should be fine.
When you return make sure your cat gets enough attention and love as he will have been stressed by your absence.

I don't think leaving him inside is the best idea because although he is familiar and comfortable with your apartment, staying couped up in there for four days would probably be very stressful. Although he would have plenty of food, water and a litter box, he'd miss the interaction he gets from you and from the outside world.
I'd suggest leaving the food and water bowl out for him while you're gone, and asking a neighbor to make sure they're filled every day.

Here are a few possible solutions:
1) Take him to a pet boarding home
2) Make sure someone visits him daily and changes out food and water..
3) The last resort is to leave his food/water and litter box outdoors and build a nice shelter using a Dog Kennel for his protection... Give him LOTS of warm blankets and leave your sweater or something with your scent inside the kennel to make the cat feel you are still home.
Make sure that the food and water bowl are fed by a dispenser to ensure clean and fresh food and water daily.
Hope this helps.

Yes, ask somebody to take care of him. If he sleeps in your apt. and uses the litter box, you shouldn't leave him outside while you're gone. He sounds like he's become "your" cat, so don't chance him getting hurt. Besides, he would be happier inside where it's warm, don't you think?
Good for you in loving a stray cat!

If you live in an area where there are lots of racoons or something like that I wouldnt think it would be best to let it stay outside. And if you have a deck or something like that put its food out side and something for it to lay on. My cat is an outside cat and when we go away on trips we leave her inside and she does fine though.
