Sin - any organized religion's way to get you to ignore your instincts. also can be used to try and get you to do things that are good for you.
sinning having to do with sex... very interesting. maybe because sex is very pleasurable and most religions are into the next world and trying to get you to renounce this world, so if they make pleasures into sins, it's easier to give them up. theoretically.
also some things like drinking could be sins because when people get drunk they lose their inhibitions and then..have sex! haha, joking aside, they also get in fights and kill people etc etc. so maybe religion kind of thought it was looking out for us.
you're right, it's pretty much all tied to sex. maybe because sex makes you feel empowered, and so you would be more likely to question the church. and they have crazy ideas about only virgins being "pure," so, it also would make you impure.
the no pre-marital sex thing i think stems from a pre-divorce and pre-birth control time when if you had pre-marital sex and got pregnant, you had no guarantee that the dad was going to help you out. so lots of girls would probably have gotten pregnant and then been really up the creek since they couldn't work or anything.
anyway.
go have fun!

The root meaning of sin, according to "The Theological Word Book," is "to miss the mark." Picture young David, tribe of Benjamin, sent with the other boys to watch the sheep in the high pasture, to protect them from lions and such, armed with just a rawhide sling. What do young boys do when there's nothing else to do? They compete. They hang a twig from a tree with a long hair and throw stones at it with their slings. When everyone's so good they don't miss the twig, the hair becomes the target. Off the mark by a hair. Sin. Goliath didn't have a chance, you know.
Sex isn't the only way to sin, but it does get more than its share of publicity. But there's also greed, about which our culture does very little unless there's blatant theft involved, and 5 (traditionally) other deadly sins. Sex is nice, but like everything wonderful it often goes terribly wrong.

Who said sex = sin?
Sin Literally, a missing of the mark, according to the Hebrew and Greek Bible texts. God himself sets the "mark" that his intelligent creatures are to reach. Missing that mark is sin, which is also unrighteousness, or lawlessness. (Romans 3:23)
Sin is anything not in hormony with God's personality, standards, ways, and will, all of which are holy.
It has nothing to do witht the act of sex as it was required by Adam & Eve to carry out God's will & command to fill the earth Genesis 1:28 . The sinning begins when sex is outside the Marriage arrangments.

In my opinion, the bible is a combination of interpretations. I believe that it's ones own relationship with God that matters most. Even the holiest of people sin... they take what they consider "important" in the good book and leave the rest.
Sin is to do something that brings a guilty feeling within yourself. Whether you've been told that it is wrong or not. We all have a conscience to raise a red flag to sin.

Sin: an act that you willngly perform knowing (or thinking ) that it is wrong.
I don't think 99% of sin has to do w sex. Certaintantly alot is sex related, but not that much. And it is becuase man is sinful.
As for changing the religions, there is only one correct one, Christianity. And to change it would be to make it worldly and sinful.

Sin is what you feel is unacceptable to live with on your conscience.
Don't listen to people whose last confirmed sighting of god happened 2000 years before you were born. I believe in sin, but I believe it as a concept rather than an actual trace marker from the sky bully. If you feel your life is out of control, put it IN CONTROL and be happy, or let a guideline of rules tell you how you should live your live so you dont feel guilt.

I would have to say that 99% of sin is not sex. If you are a christian, then sex is not intended to be bad. It is a great gift from God but is intended to be between you and one other person after you are married. Yes i would agree that it is bad to go around and sleep around with people. Sin is also a multitude of other things. Murder, making fun of someone, dissobeying parents, lying, ect. Sin ranges from calling someone a dork to killing them. In God's eyes they are equal.

Sin s when your heart separates from God's will. We all are sinners..and heh hee, sex is kind of a good thing. God gave it to us to enjoy as a pleasant gift. It came with instructions for our protection. You know, it can be a powerful weapon.
We all fall short from the glory of God. So sin is something we live with, and Jesus died for our sins so we do not have to die. We can be with God forever if we accept His gift of Salvation. We really get much better deal than we deserve.

The Bible defines sin as falling short of God's mark and His holiness. Sexual sin is most prevalent because it is one of Satan's favorite and most successful temptations. God created sex. He intended it to be pleasurable and to be shared between a husband and wife for their lives together. The purpose of sex is to unite the husband and wife as one, to express the love each has towards the other and to procreate. Anything we do which does not match up to the perfect holiness of Almighty God is sin.
