on my opinion its because contemporary art has little meaning and is not very attractive so they have to create a whole big story around it in order to create interest.
I agree if its your opinion, art is supposed to be another mean of communication instead of speaking so why would you explain your art with words? silly!

Words were created from marks that represented nature. It makes sense in this era of full spectrum art -- styles from all "isms" -- some artists are going back to the beginning of mark making by incorporating words, letters and other symbols in their artwork. I see no problem with adding words, or found objects, or another other "medium" to express new ideas and thoughts about what makes art. especially when it draws upon the history of art to make a statement.

Art is the expression of a person soul or worldview. If an artist feels that words will help them express their theme better, they include them. Words can evoke sentiments just like colours can.

Do you mean words printed on works of art? It's just another form of expression on one that is existing

Cause they can't do real art, so they do something easy so upity people will say hmmmm whats he doing here....it must be art.

because we can, and it suits some of us, and words can be made into pictures and shapes with a bit of work and it looks awsome.
a good example of this is "Portraits of the Word" by Timothy R. Botts.

so that you don't mis interrupte their meaning. Its their expression and they want you to know that, cause it is apparent they think you have no knowledge of art nor expression of sorts.

because they can. it has become like symbolism. because they use every medium they can. to tell you more. because they like the way it looks.
