Let me try to get this straight. Some of the answerers here are saying that they only believe in parts of the Bible (i.e. the New Testament). But wait a minute, isn't the whole Bible written by or inspired by God, according to you? So how can you pick and choose which parts are worthy of your belief and which parts aren't?

Do you KNOW what the land is that the Lord gave them? The Bible says specifically the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Not just anybody who thinks differently than you. This was so that the Israelites would not get tempted to follow their false gods. That was a one time thing over and done with. Other instances where He instructed them to do the same thing were also very specific people, NOT EVERYONE on the planet!!!
You have the greatest book ever written right in front of you. Stop taking it out of context and start looking at all of the great things that Jesus did in the New Testament. Try reading the Gospel of John. It is awesome.

It seems that you have just discovered the Old Testament. You are reading some difficult passages. I say that because you probably are not aware of the culture of that day. It was pretty barbaric at times. Through all this God continually spares the chosen nation Israel. Even when they strayed and got into some pretty nasty situations. He still provided for all their needs. You really need to study the Bible in its entirety. A good teacher is J. Vernon McGee at www.ttb.org. that will give you a listing of times he is on the radio doing a 5 yr study of the entire Bible. Stop selecting verse willy nilly and get the whole scoop.

Strange how Christians have turned their back on the O.T., because they can't defend those silly stories written by half-civilized people thousands of years ago.
The truth is the N.T. was only written to justify the belief in Jesus as the Messiah.
He was not mentioned in the O.T.---only that a Messiah was coming.
The Jews didn't accept him.
Christians try to claim they have a new contract.
Hog-wash.-- If they can't believe in the god of the O.T., then how can they believe in the son?

We are under the new covenant.
The general rule was to make captives of the people conquered. Only in the specific case of the "seven nations" of Canaan were they to exterminate them ( see Josh 6:21 ) This was because of their "abominations"which were so obnoxious to God that the land "vomits out its inhabitants " Lev 18:12

You are taking that passage out of context. That is refering to the Isrealites when they came out of the desert and were taking the promise land. Those towns being destroyed were being punished, for they had known they were doing wrong for many generations. So God took the land from them and gave it to his ppl, the Jews not the Christians.

God didn't write the Bible, men did...if your going to criticize religion, try to get it right.
Atheists are so cool for denying God all because of some old book, belonging to one religion, written and re-translated by ordinary, flawed men.

These commands were given to the Israelite nation, not Christians. If you bothered to study the historical context, you would not tend to ask such foolish questions.
