I'm getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow (all four). I've never had a tooth pulled let alone holes cut into my gums to remove a tooth. My brother's got infected and he was in pain for weeks. I have plans on friday ( 3 days after my teeth come out), will I feel better by then? Anything that you can tell me to make me feel better? Thanks!!

I've had all 4 of mine out, I was put under for the surgery. I'm not sure if you're just getting a local freezing for the removal, or being put under- if you're being put under, it will take a little longer to recover (mostly just from the anesethea..sp?). Make sure you clean the holes out like the doctor tells you...do it no matter how tired you are, or even if it hurts- this will help to prevent infection. Also, ask if there is a rinse you can use to clean them out. Your face will most likely swell, and you may have bruising- it really depends how deeply imbedded your teeth are. Don't be scared, they give you enough pain killers that you won't really be in pain, but I definitely recommend taking the pain killers. Now...plans 3 days later? I doubt it. But it depends on what you're doing...are you going on a date? You probably won't want to go. Are you going to sit around with friends watching movies...that should be ok. You'll have to play it by ear, everyone responds differently to stuff like this. Good luck! Make sure you have lots of soft foods around for when you get home.

I had all four of mine out at once also and was glad I did so I could get it over. You will probably have some pain but if you do exactly as the doctor says it should not get out of hand. I know that the first couple of days you need to remain very quiet and use ice packs. Your doctor will probably give you pain meds. You won't be able to eat solid foods and you cannot drink with a straw. I am surprised that your doctor did not give you an instruction sheet for after the surgery. When I had mine done they packed the areas with gauze and I had to keep it in for a long time. Maybe your brother didn't do that and that was why his got infected. Both my children had theirs out also and did not have major problems but they were sore for several days. I don't know what your plans are on Friday but I think you won't want to go. Talk with your doctor and follow his instructions faithfully. Good luck!

It isn't that bad. I had all 4 of mine out at the same time and was back at work 2 days later, on the phone for most of my 8 hours. The dentist will give you very detailed instructions on how to care for it and probably some pretty potent painkillers just in case. I wasn't put under and the sounds scared me a little, but I didn't feel a thing. The extractions hurt a lot less than the teeth themselves did coming in.

Don't worry. Wisdom teeth are easy to get out, usually, and rarely have any problems. The pain will last for a couple of days, but it won't be terrible..you'll just know it is there. Then by the third day you should be able to function mostly normally (other than eating). Have a good day tomorrow, and good luck!

I'm 15 and mine hadn't come up completely but they were pushing on my other teeth so they had to come out. I had them all out. I was asleep and when I woke up my mouth was completely numb and I couldn't remember anything and I was so doped on drugs I couldn't walk. It hurts after the numbness goes away. The dentist gives you strong painkillers though. I was so scared because I had needles and to put me to sleep I had to have an IV which is a gross needle in your vein in your arm,but they gave me laughing gas before they put it in so I was calm. Your cheeks will get really big and swollen and you will look like a chipmunk. Don't suck out of a straw after the operation because it will give you dry socket. Also, remember to finish all the antibiotics the dental surgeon prescribes. I learned that the hard way and developed a painful infection and I had a bubble of stuff in near my wisdom tooth hole and it burst and white stuff leaked out the hole. It was gross. Eat soft foods after the operation and rinse the holes gently with salt water after meals. Good luck!

Hey, you. I have only had two out of four wisdom teeth pulled and I had little to no pain with them. The best advice I can give you is to follow the doctors advice 100%. Your brother got dry sockets and thats usually from not doing everything correctly.
I would assume you'd be better on Friday. Take tylenol, suck on ice, etc, etc. Get rest.

You'll be fine. Happy Holidays!

IV sedation is the key to a painless teeth pulling. As long as you use an extra pillow and plenty of ice for a couple of days you should be ok. Make sure you get some good pills from the dentist. This will help.

i had one wisdom tooth pulled out a few years ago and my face (on the side the tooth was pulled from) was swollen for two weeks. trying to chew hurt a lot, but i didn't get an infection. keep your mouth clean and avoid chewing for the first few days. i drank a lot of liquids, and ate a lot of soup, oat meal and malt o meal. my experience wasn't very fun, but at least the pain is only temporary. good luck and try not to worry too much!
