There's more than one occasion on which parents will tell their kids that if there is a man they will never see who will reward them if they are good and punish them if they are bad.

Why is this ok? It's still lying. Some adults lie to each other in the same way.

It's not ok. The parents who do this teach out of ignorance. I don't think the santa thing is all bad just because it's all for fun. The god thing though is a digfferent story. Teaching children that there is an invisible man in the sky irritates the hell out of me.

GOD IS GOD. How can a mere man punish us for our sins??
Now if your taking about Santa Claus there WAS a St. Nicolis and Santa Claus is the Dutch pronunciation of it. He did exist. and He did reward good children w/ his generosity. While He is Gone his spirit lives on in those of us who celebrate Christmas.
And it isn't a lie as far as THAT is concerned.
didn't your dad reward you when you were good and punish you if your weren't?
No lie there.
Now what was your question??

Why do say there is a Santa Claus? Or why there is an Easter Bunny? Or better yet, that they are beautiful?(When they ain't)
I guess because we just love them.

My parents never told me that and I never told my kids that, and my kids don't tell my grand children that. Why would you tell any child such a thing? Did you know Santa Clause is not real?
