Wow... Had I only known how much animostiy this mere question would have caused, I would have not written it...heaven forbid I should comment on anything. Looks like we've got bigger problems than grammar, if even asking a question about it turns into an angry mob... cool down, everybody! Its just a lighthearted question...put your smile back on your face.

Sheesh!... I am not criticizing anyone! Its true.. for whatever reason... spelling and grammar take a back seat in chat rooms and on forums such as this... Not one of you can refute me on that. Yes, there are various reasons why, and I realize that.
Isnt it funny, though, how people can ask a question on here like, "Is it wrong that my mothers boyfriend has sex with sheep?" and everyone treats this as totally normal.
For heaven's sake, people, I'm not knocking anyone's abillity to spell... I'm merely commenting on the fact that both spelling and grammar are terrible on chat forums...not one of you can refute that.
lighten up! cheer up! It's just a question, theres no need to get hostile...happy holidays, by the way, everybody.

It is not just in yahoo...it is throughout the world. I find myself shouting at the television or radio when I hear a person make an attempt in speaking a simple sentence. I hear the word "whatever" being used as a complete sentence and I nearly scream. Whatever is not a sentence, it is a word in a sentence. "Want to go with?" is not a sentence. I always ask the person "go with what?". Finish the sentence.
Proper English is what will make you into something other than trailer trash. Enunciate your words...get the gum out of your mouth.

It isn't you. Something drastic seems to have happened to grammar and spelling over the past few years, and numbers of people are nudging towards illiteracy. After all, why do they even need to know about spelling and grammar when they're doing most of their communicating via cell-phones, and typing words into their blackberries. Given the physical struggle it is to use a blackberry (they certainly aren't ergonomically designed) it's quite understandable that words have been shortened significantly and abbreviations reign. But still -- some questions are so poorly written and the spelling is so bad, that it's very hard to understand what the question is supposed to be.
However, there are probably more significant things to worry about.
Oh, well. Have a great holiday anyway. And better spell check your note to Santa so he knows what you're really trying to say .....

Well that's a bit anal really. Especially during the moment that you're typing a reply or a question, if you're answering a good question, and you feel quite motivated about it....trying to answer as soon as possible before forgetting the idea normally surmounts, and when you type fast..your BOUND to make an error.
And of course spell check isn't on here, nor is there any care for it either...because you're goal is to answer a question...not send out a perfect resume or scholarship essay as to why your answer is the best, as most people choose the answer that only relates to them or what they want to hear...rather than the truth, which is often NOT what they want to hear...or read rather.
Now yea there's some grammar here that's like...holy cow, but it's either their slang (typing what you say in your head), they're young, you have 12 year olds on here... or from another country, and/or just for the sake of humor.
So...the grammar is bad, but it's not because everyone is flat out illiterate, it's more out of the inconvenience of taking the time to spell check or revise their comments...because it's all about answering questions....not about how great my spellling or grammar is....as long as you can read and understand it...then the more satisfied they are of their original goal :).
Have a good one!

It's really bad, and SAD. I don't pay perfect attention to spelling and grammar on here, but many people obviously don't have any idea how to write. It's a shame, too, because so often the question they're asking does not come across clearly enough for anyone to provide a good answer.

REPORTED! No just kidding, yes it is very true what you have said. However, it is a question and answer forum, most are not going to take the time to be grammatically correct. I gave you a thumbs up, just because you made a statement and did not answer a question. How dare you? LOL God bless****

Some people are quick in other ways. I don't hold a misspelling against anyone. There are millions of bad spellers who'd kick my butt with a math problem.
Double negatives do tend to rub a little. Maybe because they just sound so wrong!

You are right!
I get really frustrated trying to read questions with extensive errors in grammar and spelling that the author may think is cute but a writer is not a writer if a reader cannot read it...so those who submit with intentional errors only make their product too hard to read to qualify them as an author.

I think it all depends on the age of the askers and responders.
Most of the young ones have no good spelling or grammar habits, i have heard this stems from cell phone abbreviations.
It sure would be easier to understand their Q's & A's if they used real words.
