Today I brought mom's Cocker Spaniel here, she is sweet. My cat is basically an only child. She Showed the "Visiting Dog" who's boss. Now, she has settled some, but still Hisses. Any Suggestions to get them to get along better? Will time allow her to adjust to the visiting dog? (BTW, the dog jus friendly and good natured, wanted to be friends.)

How long is the dog visiting for? When my husband and I bought our puppy, our two cats took a little time to get used to her. It took just a few days, the hissing STILL happens here and there, even after a year.. but they are "polite" to each other.

put the dog in a crate and then let the cat sniff the dog then put the cat in a crate and let the dog sniff, get 2 towles rub one on the cat and one on the dog put the dogs towel under the cats bowel and the cats under the dogs bowel so they get used to each others sent.

just a cat thing, put them in different rooms and let them smell each other through the door....that way the cat cant scratch the dog...really time will help your kitty not be so mean, but she has a right to be mean its her space, at least thats what she thinks :)

I doubt she will ever warm up to him if he just visits from time to time. She has been raised alone and is acting on her instinct about dogs. The most you can hope for is for the hissing and slapping to stop. If that keeps up, just seperate them for the duration of the visit. It's not worth them fighting. Good luck!

Put the cocker spainiel in another room and let them "talk" threw the door. Next time try to bring your cat to your mom's house it might be better if you do that.

time will help- but don't let them in a room by themselves for a while....your cat should eventually warm up ( and might eventually be chasing the dog's tail!).....

YOUR CAT IS THE ONLY CHILD, AND IS ONLY GOING TO TOLERATE THE VISITING DOG.
HOPEFULLY YOUR MOTHER ASKED, BEFORE SHE JUST ASSUMED THAT HER DOG WAS WELCOME TO COME AND VISIT.
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR'S.
HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND REMEMBER THE DOG WILL LEAVE, SOON.
