Faith. Sick concept that has been glorified by society. Basically means believing something without evidence, which ironically, is the perfect reason not to believe something. It's put into a nice shiny little word and can make you follow someone without questioning for yourself if it that someone is right because you have faith aka a |belief without support| that they are right. It's really not a great thing to have...faith basically makes you a dumb sheep, and the person you have faith in the sheppard...lamb steak anyone? No matter what anyone says I can't begin to come up with any reason why a person should rely on faith to believe anything...but you have to understand the difference between faith and statistical analysis of the sub consious mind. For example it's not faith when you drop a ball and know it will fall, it's statistical analysis, because you can observe when you drop the ball it will fall. So why should I have faith???

Erm..... nope. But I'm sure people will tell you things like "FEAR OF HELL" and "BECAUSE IT FEELS RIGHT TO ME". They'll also ask you to have faith in "love" (I'm not sure why, though) and have faith in "gravity" (even though you've already explained statistic analysis).

Things like that. Just watch. I'm calling it right now.

Oh, right right, and that you're a sad, miserable, lonely, pathetic, desperate, pitiable, bitter, stupid, worthless person. Gosh, you MUST be! *eyeroll*

P.S. Yep, looks like almost EVERYONE is totally oblivious to your "difference between faith and statistical analysis" point. I guess it's to be expected, though. ONE person even suggested that "evidence" for gOd is like evidence at a jury trial. I'm really not sure how that works out since very specific evidence is considered relevant in trial while, conversely, everything from lumps of chocolate resembling the virgin Mary to an A on a math test has been considered "evidence" of gOd.

When you look out your window or watch TV and see all the evil and hate in the world, it's easy to understand why a person may not have faith. But! Going out to the county side and see the world the way that God meant for it to be, the way that it will be once again. This is not the life that God plan for us it is the life that evil and sin give us. I know for a fact that there is a God, I have felt His love deep within and lifted me up when I felt like I couldn't go on. I have spend my lost dollar and had no idea where our next meal would come from just to go to the mail box and find a check from someone. It was not enough to me rich but it was enough to help us make it to the next pay day. He has always been right on time, never early and never late. It's easy to blame Him for the bad things in this world and He's the last one some people thank when something good happens for them. I am so sorry for you if you do not have faith in God,because I am sure He hasn't lost His faith in you yet. Please don't be a victim of Satan the Devil; don't let him win another soul from the All Might. This evil world can't go on for too much longer, find your faith, He's just a word away.

Let me get one thing straight- I am not a Christian. And I'm never going to be. While the whole idea of Christianity- brotherly love, forgiveness, and all that jazz- sounds good written in paper, in actual practice it just produces a pack of hypocrites.
I can't give you an actual set reason to have faith- no one can. I actually agree with what you said, about "faith making you a dumb sheep"- it really is a form of ignorance. But it that such a bad thing?
It's like when you're a little kid, sitting up in bed on Christmas Eve, believing with all your heart that Santa was coming. While I now know that the whole idea of Santa was a lie, I wouldn't want to change the joy I felt because of my belief then.
Am I making any sense?
I realize this isn't really an answe to your question- if anything, it's just providing you with one more reason to not want want faith.
But...for me, faith is something essential. Without it, I don't know, life would just seem too bleak.

Oh, and if you're really interested in this topic, I suggest reading A History of Doubt, by Jennifer Hecht. It's a little lengthy, but definitely worth it.

All of society has not accepted faith, you are an example of that fact. It is OK to question faith and test it. To the Christian, faith comes from God, it is a reward for seeking God. When you read the Word of God, your eyes can see spiritual truth and your heart is aware of the Love of God. Faith is not something that you can see and that is why it is most difficult for people to accept God. I am one of the Good Shepherd lambs and maybe to you I am dumb but I only care what my Jesus thinks of me. You sound like a sensible person and I think even you can get faith. Having faith gives much joy, peace and comfort in your life. We all have tough times, but with faith in God you feel His quieting presence. I am sure that when those jets hit the world trade centre, the people with faith were just as terrified as those who didn't, but they had an assurance that God was with them. I hope someday you find this faith that right now you doubt, you will not regret it and you can still be smart. God Bless and Happy Holidays to you.

No one can give you a reason to have Faith , that is a personal choice . You have the right to believe what ever you want . As do I . In my life time there have been quite a few times when my Faith in my higher power has literally saved my life and lives of loved ones . I can not explain any of it . I do know for sure that I can not create miracles .
Are you aware of the fact that Science has embraced the idea of God ?

You are giving too narrow a definition for "faith." We all have faith in something or someone or that something will occur or might happen or that we will achieve, get on with life, marry, etc. You are talking about a religious "faith." Well that is the basis for all religions. All who subscibe to a religion have "faith" in the scriptures or beliefs, etc. It just is. It just exists as a concept. We cannot question someone's faith because we cannot touch it or alter it or get ahold of it. You have faith. If you and I did not we truly would have no reason to get out of bed.

Wow, you are really bitter about something!!! If you have to ask the question then it's pretty apparent that you don't have faith. No one says you have to. Believe what you want to believe and let others believe what they want to believe. It's not harming anyone either way. Just accept that you are a non-believer and move on to something else. There must be other things in your life that can occupy your time other than being angry at those who have something beautiful to believe in. Maybe nothing significant enough has happened in your life yet that has made you realize that there may be something out there that is larger than yourself. I hope that happens for you someday.

You do have faith. Everyone has faith in something. Faith is trust in something or someone. If you didn't trust that your car would start, you would never turn the key. That is faith.

If it's faith in God you want, you would be wrong in saying that it is a blind faith. The Bible makes it clear that faith in God is an informed faith. The Bible says that "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17)

In other words, faith comes by hearing with your heart and mind (understanding) and that understanding comes by reading and hearing the Bible. So, if you want to have faith in God, you must examine the scriptures.

So, you do have faith, it just comes down to what you choose to put faith in. Each human puts faith in different things. It would be incorrect to say you don't have faith. You might not have faith in God, but everyone has faith in something or someone.

Tell me, you have parents, right? How do you know that they are really YOUR parents? How can you tell that THEY gave birth to YOU? How can u say that u are not an adopted child, or the child of a scavenger? How can u believe that u are still in Earth and not in HELL OR HEAVEN? How can you tell, that the language that u are reading is really English?? Have u inspected all these with ur own eyes and then believed them? Did u see the evolution of earth to say that u are living in earth itself?? Or the development of English? Haven't u just believed what u have been taught or told? Now, isn't this a blind belief, or "faith" in ur words? The essence of the whole world is FAITH. U cannot escape it......... :-)

what is faith:the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen.obviously you say this b/c you have not really tried faith.faith is real.not a sick concept.the bible says that we have power in our tongues. so whatever we speak is able to come to past.but you have to believe it first.then speak it.then picture it and act as if it has already been manifested.prepare for it then thank god for it.that's true faith.everyone is given a measure of faith from god.you have to learn to work it so it can grow.sometimes faith is all that you have left.i have seen people come a long way off of faith.those are the ones who strive.who are so determined and believe so strongly that nothing anyone says can change it.that's great faith.you know you have great faith when people laugh at you or look at you like your crazy.it can be hard and look so impossible but you gotta hold on and I assure you will profit from it.without faith it is impossible to please god.that's what the bible says so i think you need to start working on yours.pray about it.

Boy, do I feel sorry for you! My faith, rather than making me a "dumb sheep" gives me the strength and confidence to be who I am, to stand up for what I believe and to defend those weaker than I am. Also, contrary to the assertion of another responder, it does NOT in any way relieve me from responsibility! I am absolutely responsible for every choice I make and when I make a mistake, I'm responsible for cleaning up the mess and repairing whatever I can. Your faith, apparently, is only in science (or is it math?). When you get to the highest levels of theoretical math, physics, etc. you approach the very same conclusions as the highest levels of theology! Mostly I have faith because it works for me. I am a better person, a stronger person, a more patient accepting and loving person because I believe in a Power Greater than Myself. My life works better, good things come my way and I like myself when I operate according to my faith. Keep in mind, I'm a Unitarian Universalist and do not follow any dogma: I have a personal relationship with the Spirit who created the mountains, move the tides, creates new life, heals wounds and fits together all the myriad tiny pieces of the world and makes them work together in harmony (at least until we humans in our infinite "wisdom" saw fit to throw off the balance and destroy more of this earth every day). Faith has also freed me from the prison of substance abuse for the last nine years. I feel sorry for people like you who simply refuse to see what's in front of their noses. There's plenty of proof in my life, but you've already decided (against all evidence and with a complete lack of genuine research) it's bull-oney. What a sad, scary lonely world you must live in! Mine's here any time you decide you'd like to try something better.
