a nice bottle of wine and a gift card for a movie rental?

Get a decent bottle of wine. Find a vintage that is bottled near your home, if possible. States like Texas and Arkansas have very nice wine industries developing, and a taste of "home" would be a nice gesture and usually not too expensive.
Add samples of local jams, jellies, cookies or other food items made in your home town or state and make it a gift basket. Leave out the wine or substitute a sparkling grape juice if the gifted doesn't do alcohol.

As someone who works in the wedding industry, I think that couples after they get married don't need another kitchen appliance. What they need are fun things to do...
You can do something really cute, like 2 movie tickets wrapped inside a box of microwave popcorn. All together, less than $30.00 and it's thoughtful. They can enjoy a night at the movies...

I agree with those who say movie tickets. You could also get a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. Basically, anything that encourages them to spend time together in a romantic-esqe scenario.

Well they sell these really cool punch fountains. Sort of like chocolate fountains but its punch! It's AWESOME! Also u can give them a gift card to their favorite store?
