Trinitarians try to use the term "cult" like a sledgehammer to obliterate any thinking analysis of what the supposed "cultist" actually believes. Trinitarians embrace a bizarre, non-etymological, quite arbitrary definition of the term "cult" which includes anyone who does not believe that Jesus is God Himself, rather than the Son of God. Interestingly, pagans in the first century slandered Christ's followers with the insulting term "Atheist" (!) because the Christians had a somewhat different idea from the pagans about the nature of God.
Jehovah's Witnesses teach that no salvation occurs without Christ, that accepting Christ's sacrifice is a requirement for true worship, that every prayer must acknowledge Christ, that Christ is the King of God's Kingdom, that Christ is the head of the Christian congregation, that Christ is immortal and above every creature, even that Christ was the 'master worker' in creating the universe! Secular authorities in academia and government routinely acknowledge that Jehovah's Witnesses are a Christian religion. With more than 16 million associating with Jehovah's Witnesses, the term "cult" seems very out of place in a fair discussion of Jehovah's Witnesses. Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians.
Sadly, Trinitarians seem more interested in perpetuating their human traditions, Greek philosophy, and Babylonish fetishes rather than reasonably examining the Scriptural definition of "Christian". In fact, the bible most closely associates being "Christian" with preaching about Christ and Christ's teachings. Review all the times the bible uses the term "Christian" and note that the context connects the term with:
"declaring the good news"
'teaching quite a crowd'
'open eyes, turn from dark to light'
"uttering sayings of truth"
"persuade"
"keep on glorifying"
(Acts 11:20-26) [The early disciples of Jesus] began talking to the Greek-speaking people, declaring the good news of the Lord Jesus... and taught quite a crowd, and it was first in Antioch that the disciples were by divine providence called Christians.
(Acts 26:17-28) [Jesus said to Paul] I am sending you, to open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God... Paul said: “I am not going mad, Your Excellency Festus, but I am uttering sayings of truth and of soundness of mind. ...Do you, King Agrippa, believe the Prophets? I know you believe.” But Agrippa said to Paul: “In a short time you would persuade me to become a Christian.”
(1 Peter 4:14-16) If you are being reproached for the name of Christ, you are happy... But if he suffers as a Christian, let him not feel shame, but let him keep on glorifying God in this name
So why do anti-Witnesses try to hijack the term "Christian" and hide its Scriptural implications? Because anti-Witnesses recognize that it is the preaching work that makes it clear that the relatively small religion of Jehovah's Witnesses are by far the most prominent followers of Christ:
(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded

I was a Jehovah's Witness for many years because I believed that they taught the truth, and other relgiions didn't. However, when I started reading the literature that Jehovah's Witnesses had published from their very beginning, back in the the 1800's, I was surprised to find out that they did not teach the truth. They had made many prophecies - claiming that God was directing them - and yet their prophecies didn't come true. For example, they predicted that the 'end of the world' would come in 1914. That didn't happen, but today JW's will tell you their prophecy was true, it was just "off" a little bit.
Now they tell you that they correctly predicted the end of the Gentile Times in 1914, but the truth is that nothing happened in 1914 except the First World War. That is not the same thing as the end of the world system of things, that was only a war.
Back in the year 1920, they also foretold in a book named Millions now Living will Never Die that the dead prophets like Abraham would be resurrected in the year 1925. That was a false teaching and false prophecy, wasn't it? Do you think God approves of people who claim they are telling people HIS TRUTH, then their prophecies turn out to be lies?
Yes, they are nice people, but that doesn't mean they can't be misled. You should do some research on the internet. Don't believe everything you read, but be sure to get both sides of the story before you decide.
There is a website called Freeminds. org which has a lot of quotations from Watchtower publications that you can read for yourself.
Pinatas have 'pagan origins', but JW's are OK with that. JW's wear heart-shaped necklaces, although they believe that the heart was a pagan symbol. They approve of embalming dead bodies, although that also originated as a pagan religious practice. They sell the Watchtower magazine even though the Watchtower originated to tell people a lie - that Jesus had come back to the earth in 1874. So Jehovah's Witnesses are also guilty of approving of things that have questionable origins.

Absolutely there is a way to stay in the Bible truth without displeasing your mother. Simply put, Bible truth is not found in the Watchtower.
This group denies most of the basic truths of historical Christianity. They cant quote their sources in an honest fashion. If you are 13, I would guess that you are in Grade 9. When you do assignments for school, I would guess that the teachers are a lot more interested in making sure that you quote people in an honest fashion.
If you want to see what I am talking about, get the book "Exposing Should you believe in the Trinity" by Angel Arellano. You will see what I am talking about.

I really appreciate you that though you are so young you are interested by spiritual things. You have a sincere heart. Jehovah God is searching for people like you.
To be pure in heart also means to be sincere, to be free from hypocrisy, having all of one’s affections focused or set in one direction, on one thing, on gaining God’s approval.
I'm a young girl too. My sister is too and we follow God's laws. Our parents are very proud of us because we don't do what other teenagers do nowadays.
If you choose this road it will lead you to salvation and maybe one day you'll be able to help your mother to understand the truth.
“We must obey God as ruler rather than men." - Acts 5:29
"But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved." - Matthew 24:13
"For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do [the] work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry. For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the due time for my releasing is imminent. I have fought the fine fight, I have run the course to the finish, I have observed the faith. From this time on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me as a reward in that day, yet not only to me, but also to all those who have loved his manifestation." - 2Thimothy 4:3-8

I remember being young and wanting to study the Bible. My mom was against it but she let me make up my own mind about it because I was 16 or 17 and somewhat old enough to make up my mind.
However you should respect your mom's wishes and not have a formal study. I don't want you to get in trouble with your mom. One guarantee that the Bible gives is that it'll go well with you when you honor your mother and father.
You can do a number of things though. First and foremost, pray to Jehovah about it. No matter what happens, if Jah wants you to be a servant of his, he has the power and ability to teach you. Pray for patience, continued respect for your mom, and endurance.
Also try to make arrangements with the local elders in the congregation to come and meet with your mom if she's agreeable. Let her talk with them. Go to a meeting with her and she'll see what type of people we really are.
Continue to read the Bible and whatever publications you have on hand. There's also www.watchtower.org; it has oodles of info on many topics including some on dealing with teenage years and talking to your parents. In fact the December 06 Awake has an article that talks about earning the trust of your parents. I highly recommend you read it.
I know from personal experience that Jehovah will arrange things in such a way that'll be most beneficial to your wants and needs as long as you keep on praying about them.
I admire your courage and hunger for the truth. These times are tough and Satan's going to try to discourage you at every turn. Your reliance on Jehovah will prove him to be a liar. (Pro 27:11)

Hi, I know what you mean, My mother hated Jehovah's Witnesses when I started studying.
Only I was 21 and you are 13.
Ask your friend to look up experiences about young ones who remained faithful while their parents opposed them.
You will find the experiences encouraging.
You will also get a lot of mis-information here, so be careful.
2 Tim 4:3 For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. 5 You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do [the] work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.
May Jehovah bless the spirit you show.

Jehovah's Witnesses at least have good bible answers to questions. And are good people, and better Christians than most. To many people base their beliefs on emotion and fail to pursue an open minded study of the Bible following traditions and what’s popular. The truth is sometimes hard to except. There are a lot of people showing their ignorance by answering what they don’t know!

Look it Up
Quote
"The Bible is considered by Jehovah's Witnesses to be the inspired word of God. The New World Translation, produced by the group in 1961, is believed to be the most accurate translation to date, although the translation has been extensively criticized by many scholars. They believe that the recognition and use of God's personal name, translated as Jehovah in English, is vital for acceptable worship. They also believe that Jesus' death was necessary to atone for the sin of the first man, Adam, opening the way for the hope of everlasting life to all of Adam's descendants. In contrast to mainstream Christianity, Jehovah's Witnesses reject doctrines such as the Trinity, eternal torment in hell, the immortality of the soul, and the reward of life in heaven for all believers. They also believe that the wicked will be destroyed at Armageddon, and those who survive will form a new society and live forever in an earthly paradise." end of quote

Ok at this time you need to respect your mom. If you are a Christian, then you are of the same faith, just a different denomination. Much like Catholic is different from Baptist and that is different from Pentecostal. Most parents want to have their children worship as they do. They believe in the truth of their faith and see the diffferences of other denominations as stumbling blocks.
However, at 13 whether you like it or not you are easily swayed and manipulated. Continue to study, speak to teachers and pastors in your church ask them to show you where the Jehovahs Witness are biblically inacurate (in their opinion) see if it rings true with you. There may be practices that you agree with that as an adult you choose to make part of your life, but there may be beliefs you don't agree with.
Either way, give it time. Allow your mother to lead you (as long as she is not telling you not to believe in Christ) and continue to study and search for the truth.
The bible teaches in Ephesians 6
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise: 3 "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth."*
If you stray from her at this age you are not staying in truth with the bible. When you are an adult choose your way after much study and prayer.
Good Luck and God Bless

ffThey are not a cult. I was a Jehovah's Witness at that age too. I am no longer but that had nothing to do with the religion itself. If you do research you will see that most holidays do not make any sense anyway. The bible even says that people will be persecuted for their beliefs. If that is the path you choose then good for you! They are kind people and will teach you to think for yourself. Stay true to yourself and good luck. But remember that a lot of "christians" will mock you and your choice but stay strong if that is what you believe! People make judgements without actually talking to any in the Kingdom Hall so maybe you can talk to your mother and show her some Watchtowers.
PS. Unlike what a lot of the uninformed think their bible is the same as all the bibles.

You have receive some good answers here, especially from the JWs who, though think you shoudl learn, do not think you shoudl go against the wishes of your mother. At least they don't openly condemn other religions. As for myself, I'm going to give you some lessons on life.
Though you may not believe, it has been less than a year since you BEGAN developing conceptual thought process. This means you your barin has stored enough data to "begin" sorting and developing the ability to undersand why something is. I say begin because it takes 12 years for girl (age 24) and 18 years (age 30) for boys to complete this stage in the process. There was a very good study done on this by the U of Michgan. The Discovery Health Channel did a good series on it call "The Amzing Life of the Human Brain." And if you want to disagree with this supposition, consider that Christ didn't begin developing this ability until age 12.
The reason you get declared an adult at age age is because boys are drafted at that age, but they do it than because their brains are still so much mush and can be easily manipulated into doing things they would not otherwise. Things like killing individuals who are not specifically trying to kill you, at the time. Individuals who you do not have a specific beef with, such as carpet bombing innocent German citizens during WWII specifically for the purpose of creating terror and forcing them to turn on their government. That kind of sounds familiar, doesn't it?
As for females, they get declared adults at age 18 because the boys are.
For now, if you want to dedicate your life to God and Christ, learn from your friend and be a good example of a person dedicated to God and Christ. When you are legally allowed to make these decisions for yourself, than you may do so, but for now, respect your mother. Who knows, from your example, she may join you by than.
