defragmenting H. P. windows 98.,so scrambled had to go scandisk still wont work.?

tried deragmenting for 4 hrs. only 2% complete and would go back to 0 % done....went to scandisk for 2hrs. it only bring up 7 folders and 4 others...screen would pop up said tried 10 times but a another file kept writing in and would block it..hit yes and it would try again..kept hiting yes for 2HRs. what is the next step????

START, SEARCH, search for *.tmp files. Delete all that the system will allow.

You have so much trash on your hard drive, DEFRAG has no place to work.

Be sure and empty Recycle BIN!

Try Diskeeper. http://www.diskeeper.com/defrag.asp .

Also, its useless if you have very less space left on your hard disc. Like 1 or 2GB...
