there are a couple of different ways depending on what day it is, etc. On the weekdays, you can take the Marc train from Penn Station in Baltimore to Union Station in DC.

This is a commuter train and only runs Monday through Friday. If you're traveling on the weekend there's two different options. One is to take an amtrak train (amtrak.com) or you can take the lightrail from Baltimore

to BWI and from BWI catch a metrobus to Greenbelt metro station and take the subway into DC.

Take the Marc train from Baltimore Penn Station to Union Station in DC.....I think it costs like $7.00 each way. From there you can take the Metro or cab to wherever you need to go in downtown DC

DC Metrobus runs a bus from BWI to Greenbelt metro for $3. Then take the metro into downtown for a couple of dollars more.

Cheapest way would be hitchhiking, it's free! However it is not very safe! The train is economoical, comfortable, and relatively safe. I used to take a bus from Baltimore to US Route 1 in College Park, MD (where Un. of Maryland is). From that point I could walk in about 15 minutes to DC. Once you get to DC you can ride their buses or hail a cab, they are everywhere! Good luck!

I agree with the previous poster - it is absolutly safe. The BW parkway will take you all the way into downtown D.C. and then you can branch off the parkway onto New York Avenue to get to the capital hill area. Watch out for speed cameras, everyone gets caught!

If it's during the week, take the MARC train to Union Station. It used to be cheap (under $20 round-trip).

Amtrak

Or take a commuter bus. Call Grey Line to find out about them.
