Sorry for all of your "hot-headed" answers. I totally understand where you were coming from. There are lots and lots of medications that can 'cross species' but I've never heard of Enderal being one of them. I have heard Enalapril...the antibiotics are ones that are commonly used in humans and dogs.
I hope you found a vet who would talk to you. I can feel your distress and I totally understand just wanting to make your friend more comfortable. Sorry I wasn't able to help more.
Best wishes...

First of all, if a veterinarian who has NEVER seen your dog answers you, then that veterinarian should go to JAIL! That is a violation of federal law that maintains in order to prescribe medications there must exist a patient, client, veterinary relationship. Second, why would you WANT someone who has never seen your dog to be prescribing medications for a condition which they have not diagnoses? There are many causes of heart failure and for the benefit of your dog, you should have him properly evaluated by a cardiologist.
My dog have been on medications for congestive heart failure for 1 year now. He has a 6/6 systolic heart murmur with mitral valve and tricuspid valve insufficiency. He is on digoxin, benazapril, spironolactone, lasix and pimobendan. And since he had a proper work up (consisting of EKG, echo, radiographs and blood chemistries) and diagnosis he appears to the typical person as a normal happy dog. Oh, and he's a 14 year old minature poodle.
Do what is right for your pet - have him properly treated for his disease.

I'm so sorry for you - I wish I could help you but I'm not a vet and I don't know about this stuff. Just wanted to tell you that I understand your anguish as will so many other ppl out there on YA. It's obvious you love your dog very much. Good luck, I hope he feels a little easier soon.

Do NOT give your dog your medication.Dogs livers cannot process our medications.Your vet can give you medication that is for Canine heart conditions. Also ask your vet about lasix,,this will help your dog breath easier,,often fluid is a problem around the heart.

I don't know about that but I know I just had my Baby put down a few months ago. She was 14 and I felt she was not having much of a life anymore and I could not allow her to suffer. Since they can't talk and tell us how they feel we have to use our judgement and common sense. Mine told me it was time, I didn't want to be selfish and keep her around for me. So, maybe you need to consider that and not allow her to pull for air and suffer. Whatever you do, I am sorry for the loss but glad you had the experience. She will be in doggie heaven with my Baby soon anyways. Love coming your way.

No, let your vet write a doggie size dosage. You may give your dog too much or too little medication it is never a good idea to give dogs human medication without permission from YOUR VET.

There is no way to verify that a person who says they are a Vet actually are one when you get answers here, so please check with your Vet. Some medicines for people like Inderal aren't even tolerated well by people.

Call a vet, and ask their opinion. Do not rely on opinions on Yahoo, their facts may not be true.

never give you dog any meds. without first consulting your vet. Your vet should be able to tell you if it is safe to give it.
