They are in southern Iraq based around the city of Basra. They don't make the news in most country's (other than the UK) as there isn't much fighting in southern Iraq.

I read yesterday that there are 7,200 British troops serving in Southern Iraq according to Reuters News Service. The British plan to draw down troops and hand over affairs to Iraq next year.
US has 140,000 troops plus about 100,000 private contractors. Bush is considering sending up 30,000 additional troops in what is being called a "surge."
