Spirituality can easily be defined as: "Ones personal relationship with thier higher power."

Yes, of course an atheist can have spirituality; if, they have a relationship with a higher power.

This higher power does not have to be god, it can be anything they are willing to turn thier life and thier will over to.

People who call themselves Spiritual are not members of an organized religion. They tend to believe that there is only one way to God, and that way is from you (the believer) to Him (the Lord God), rather through an organization. Many spiritual oriented people also will not be succored into all those so-called religions.
There are way too many religions who call themselves "the only right religion on earth", be it Christian or others. Who in their right mind can figure out which one actually is the right one??? So sincere people become spiritual versus religious.
