We dated for about 6 months, and he gave me a promise ring after we had been dating for 2 months. I actually paid for most of it because I (foolishly) believed that we would stay together and he would be able to pay me back. I want him to send me the money, but I don't know what to do with the ring. I don't particularly want it, and I am considering selling it to a jewelry store. I also considered doing that and just having him keep his money. I'm just trying to decide whether or not I should ask him to send me my money and send him the ring (what he wants), ask him to send me the money and keep the ring because at some point in my life I'm sure I'll want it, or have him keep his money and me sell the ring. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Actually, he will give me what I want in regards to money. I have his baseball jersey, and depending on what I decide to do, I'm perfectly willing to be evil and hold it hostage until I get what I want.

you need the quickest route to getting over the loser, so I would sell it. You would get money out of it, & feel better to not have to look at it anymore. He owes you money on it, & it is probably more than what you will get out of that ring, but you are rid of him & able to move on. Cut loses, & move on honey, & don't look back, look forward to someone that can afford to buy you a ring that he pays for all by himself.

My problem is how can it be a gift if you paid for most of it .
That being said he should reap no benefits if you sell the ring cause as you said it was a gift. If you don't want sell it and with the money you get buy something you really want (not need)something frivolous. He doesn' t deserve the ring at all IT WAS A GIFT you don't ask for your gifts back. That guy is really tacky

Why are you sure that you're going to want it someday? Once you find the man you're really supposed to be with, you aren't going to care one bit about any of this, trust me.
Just sell the ring back to the jewelry store and cut your losses. What's he going to do if you give it back to him? Probably not pay you and give it to some other girl. It's happened plenty of times before. You don't need that ring staring you in the face, and you probably shouldn't rely on him giving you the money he owes.

Sell it and move on.

First of all, it is your ring. Do with it what you want. Secondly, why did you pay for it at all? You should try to get your money, but count your losses if he doesn't give it to you. Pawn the ring and get yourself something that you like. Or just keep the ring. Who knows if you may want to hang on to it for the future. I kept mine.

I would make him pay every cent the ring cost before giving him back his jersey. Once paid, you can either sell it or keep it for memories sake later in life.

Make him cough up the money. When he does graciously give him the promise ring. Tell him he has 30 days to comply or you will take it to a Jeweler and sell the ring and keep the proceeds from it.

Cut your losses and sell the ring. Consider this a life lesson....never buy your own ring.

You paid for it, keep it and take it to a pawn shop. If he wants it back, tell him to have the entire amount in cash ready and then you can exchange ring for money.

6 months is a blip on the relationship scale. Sell the ring, who cares what he wants anyway?

It's your ring. Sell it and keep the money. If it doesn't have much sentimental meaning, then rid yourself of it and put its worth to better uses.
