I want to show my friends how I use my music programs, recording from the PC. It would be better if it included sound, and didn't have a maximum amount of recording time, and was free. Not bothered about a watermark, as long as it isn't HUGE.

I thought Windows Movie Maker could do this, but it can only record from video cards or through my TV tuner it would seem.

Thanks in advance.

oRipa Screen Recorder can do the job for you. The free software records your screen activity and the audio into video files.

I'm not sure how to make a video of what you're doing on your desktop, but you can make a bunch of screenshots by pushing the Print Screen button on your keyboard and pasting them into an image editor. Here's a good tutorial from about.com:

Microsoft makes Windows Media Encoder that is a free download and does just what you want.
