Your normal lens starts to turn opaque due to age, trauma, etc. The opacity prevents light from entering the eye, therefore you have hazy vision and everything will have a slight brownish cast.

When the cataract is removed, a clear lens is implanted allowing light in, which the cataract prevented.

You may also experience hazing of the vision anywhere from 3 months to 2 years down the road. Some people call this a secondary cataract. It is actually the remainder of the capsule your natural lens was in clouding over. The ophthalmologist will use a laser to punch tiny holes in this capsule to restore your vision. The procedure is called a yag (for the type of laser) capsulotomy.

I had a near death experience. Actually I think it isn't near death, it is death and then being brought back to life. I was bleeding out of my intestines. When I laid down in the emergency room I head the nurse day that my blood pressure was 30 over zero- I tried to tell the nurse something but I couldn't. Then I heard a buzz in my ears and my hearing went. Then everything turned black and white and then my vision narrowed from out peripheral vision and narrowed until all went black. Then I was suddenly in the white light. I was awear of myself but not sure if I was in my body or not. The white light was brilliant. Like a zillion diamonds sparkling. It was like in the distance like a small dot and the light grew. If you have been in a blizzard driving a car in the dark and the car lights make the similar site. I felt perfect peace. Not one human emotions. No fear, no anxiety, no insecurities, no regrets. Just perfect peace. I thought to myself.......wow this is the day I die. I really thought I would be older.....but wow this is it. I said to my self that I had been loved and had children and grandchildren and that dying seemed very ok. Scientists and doctors say that the light is actually the brain functioning with a lack of oxygen. I say that I was on my way to God. To pure peace and whatever eternity holds. Maybe you can write the essay as if you were actually dying like I did and in the white light you wonder if this is just the brain dying or if you are on a spiritual journey.
