OMG I dont think that is safe this day and time. However if you choose to do this make sure it's in a well known place, plenty of light and plenty of people. Carry yourself some mace, your cell phone and make sure that you place your key on low (in case something does happen he can't hear you dialing 911!) Have a friend or 2 come along but sit in another area still in view! Don't go with that person anywhere else but where you met... No hotel etc No one here wants to read another horror story about a female thats been hurt meeting some stranger off the internet at a chat site! You have to be every careful doing this.. Most time the person isn't who they say they are anyway and you have no way of knowing for sure. Oh make sure they aren't following you back to your place! I don't even like the sound of meeting someone off messenger.. just be safe and careful!

Meet at the food court in the mall for ice cream or some other treat.
Something fast and inexpensive so that you can leave your financial investment behind should you opt to leave
Agree that you both will not ask for another date before you both are at your own homes again. This relieves you both of tension created by expectation and from being put on the spot.
It's easier to say no online.
If you don't already have phone numbers, don't give them until after you've both agreed to another date.
Can I suggest that you have a responsible friend tag along and watch your meeting from a distance. You know...in case some 40 year old creep comes up and says he's the Johnny you wanted to meet.
I'm 40, not a creep, but a parent. I wouldn't let my kid go, but I'll assume you're not telling your folks about this, so my advice is meant to help you keep as safe as you can, if you insist on this type of meeting.
I met my girlfriend online at the "29 levels of compatibility" site just exactly this same way. 15 months later and we're still happy together. So, this method is proven, in my book!
Good Luck.

My parents met on a blind date. Just go. You don't know this chick, so you can pretty much do whatever and it won't matter. At worst you guys will be the same as before the date, so nothing to lose

I would say meet in a more public place, especially since you've never met them before. You can never be fully sure who you're meeting. Maybe agree to meet them at a restaurant or something.
