pretty much the question, i know that it has a name and cannot remember

It is an "accent aigu" (pronounced ay-gou). It changes the e from sounding like "euh" to sounding like "ay". I hope that makes sense. It's hard to find the equivalent prounounciations in English, as they don't really exist in some cases.

It's an accent mark....it gives it the english version of a long a sound. I just can't remember what the actual word it is called! Sorry!
