what does "he's checking the waters with you" mean?

have you ever taken a bath and "checked the water" (the phrase is actually 'testing the water') to see if it is too hot or too cold or 'just right'?
he's just making sure everything is ok to 'get in' so to speak

He's taking it easy so don't get attached to him. When you first get in a relationship, people always try to impress one another, and when their true colors start to show, it's too late. It will take months to years to undo the damage. So he doesn't want to dive in until he feels comfortable with you and knows your true colors.
I'm sure you can relate. Sometimes that perfect man becomes a psycho and because you're falling "in love", you missed the signals.
I suggest you just go with the flow and " check the waters with him" as well.

"Testing the waters" is a play on words based upon the act of placing your foot or hand in water to see if it is too cold or too hot. If someone is testing the water with you, they are feeling you out to see if you like them or not.

DEARy it means He is just testing the waters, he is seeing what else he can find if he find someone better than he will go for them if not the he will stay with you. Tying to find someone better.
