In a word: treats.

All the leash suggestions are good ideas; but I would use a treat as a reward each time the dog comes to me.

Also, besure you are giving your dog LOTS of exercise. Goldens are super dogs, but have a lot of energy. They were bred to be out in the fields hunting all day. Not sitting in a house waiting for you to come home. So part of your problem may just be that your dog needs to exercise before he settles down to do some obedience work.

I suggest taking him for a long run or walk, or even free exercise at a local dog park if you have one. After he's run off some energy put the leash on him and do some basic obedience, sit, come, stay - use lots of positive reinforcement and goodies.

Dogs aren't very picky about their treats usually. My sister says, "my dog will sit for pocket lint."

It does take alot of training...

First of course... make sure it knows its name.
Second have somebody hold it on the other side of the room, etc and you call it by its name. and when it comes to you give it a specail treat.

If that dosnet work, Call a dog training place.

Good Luck! Merry Christmas!

simply intise her with treats every time she comes to you. Try kneeling down on one knee when calling her. Use a happy voice. Never call her to do unpleasant things( disipline, Vet or what ever your pet dosent like). You can also use a leash. This is the most important comand.

The cardinal rule of recalls is, never call your dog then punish him. That includes calling your dog to you then doing something to your dog he doesn't like, like nail trimming. It also includes getting him back after running away and punishing him.

Try walking your dog on a 6 ft leash, then when the dog gets distraced, call your dog's name in a happy voice, and start moving backwards. Your dog will follow because moving away from your dog is exciting to him. When he gets to you, give him a tasty treat and lots of love.

repeat.

You can't train your dog because quite simply you don't know how.

Enrol yourself in an obedience club, buy some books, do some research.

stake your dog outside on a retractable leash. use another leash so you can pull hin towards you. .
you can teach him what come means by pulling his chain [so to speak.]
the retractable chain should be powerful enough to pull him back to where he was before you pulled his chain.
so all you do is pull his chain when you want him to come. probably about 7 or 8 times should do the trick.
if not [repeat] until your pet is able to understand what you mean.

Use your dogs name a lot for good things. Good "Fido", Want to go for a walk "Fido", Want to eat "Fido". Get him use to hearing his name. Then when he is quietly relaxing on the floor away from you in a happy voice call Come "Fido" do this frequently. He will soon respond.

make sure you have treats and open your arms using a nice voice and tell her to come make sure she sees the treat and praise her even if she only comes part of the way and gets distracted by something else.
