Actually the LIRR doesn't stop at Grand Central.

Cab would cost you $45 plus tip to anywhere in Manhattan. There's also at least one private bus company that runs between the two locations: http://www.nyairportservice.com/ -- costs $15.

If you wanted to take public transportation you could take the AirTrain to Jamaica, switch to the E train towards Manhattan, and then switch to the downtown 6 train at 51st St. in Manhattan. It would be a pain with big bags though. This would cost you $7 total. Map is at www.mta.info.

Depends on the time of day. If it's morning rush hour in the morning you want to take the AirTrain to the Long Island railroad which will take you to Grand Central. If it's not morning rush hour take a car service or cab. Car services are nicer, more comfortable, but probably twice as much as a cab.
The long island railroad stops every hour at the airtrain station so you may have up to an hour wait at the station. I believe airtrain runs every 8 minutes.

The best way is to take the shuttle bus. It's about $15 each way, and stops directly in front of Grand Central. Less hassle and traveling time than AirTrain + subway, and more cost efficient than a taxi.

Taxi - costs about $45 plus tip. The other modes of transportation charge per passenger, so if there are three or more of you, the cab is actually the least expensive way to go. The airport buses can take forever - you have to share them with other people who will be dropped off and you may be taken way out of your way. I love the subways, but not if I have to carry luggage up and down stairs. Here is a list of options for you to consider:
