In 2005, Mexicans in the United States remitted some $20 billion home. That's 3% of Mexico's entire national income.

Remittances have surpassed tourism, oil, and the maquiladora assembly industry to emerge as the country's top single source of foreign exchange. For the 6% of Mexican households that receive remittances, these funds can mean the difference between extreme poverty and an income roughly in line with the Mexican average.

Today, almost one-fifth of all living Mexican-born people now make their homes in the United States. You have to go back to the Irish potato famine to find a parallel. But Mexico is not suffering famine: It is suffering from a comprehensive failure of political and economic leadership.

This is for mendi8a and Pamela V.

WAKE UP!! We are being invaded. The only thing keeping Mexico and Mexicans poor is their own worthless, corrupt government. Mexico is a very rich country, as far as natural resources go. The problem is, it is easier for the rich in Mexico to export their poverty problem "al norte" instead of fixing the problems in their own country. Viva la revolucion. If the Mexican people would overthrow their corrupt government their lives would improve and they could quit stealing from hard working US citizens. I am a capitalist at heart and I believe if you work hard and play fair you should be justly compensated, however the corrupt business's here in the USA are using the Mexican peons as virtual slave labor. The Mexican government allows it because they also profit. The profiteers are the governments of the USA and EUM (Estados Unidos Mexicanos) and business. The losers are the citizens of the the USA and EUM.

Title 8 United States Code Section 1325; ANY ALIEN (Alien; ANY person who is not a citizen or national of the United States) who enters the Untied States at ANY place, other than a designated port of entry, without being inspected by an immigration officer is guilty of a misdemeanor and/or felony i.e. an ILLEGAL ALIEN. Don't belive me, look it up.

Close the border and force the invaders to fix their own damn country, instead of ruining ours.

Amigos cuando usteds estan listos parra la revolucion, llama me y yo estoy listo parra ayudarlos, hasta a esta vayanse a mi pais.

And for Joeand his, Semper Fi Mac.

While I realize that they have problems in Mexico, what about the problems they are causing here? A lot of these people use the emergency room as a clinic and it is US the tax payers that pay for those thousands, if not millions, of visits. While many argue that they do jobs American can't do, they do not pay taxes. Their money goes back to Mexico. What about our economy? Don't you think it would be better if more money was put back into OUR communities? They are also here illegally. By being here illegally they are making a mockery of our laws. If they don't even follow our laws what kind of immigrant is that? They further disrespect our country by refusing to speak our language.I think they should go back and fix the problems of their own country.

Yes and do you know where they are getting all that money. Yes some from working so called low paying jobs butr that doesn't allow for any thing like that amount of money to leave the USA.

Pot is now the USA's cash crop number one and who is the main growers. Well califionia grows more than any other state so that should shed some light on what those Mexicans are doing in the USA. It amounts to nearly 40 billion

Yes, those of us on this forum have heard this before. It is despicable and I don't know how Mexico can hold their heads up, they should be so ashamed. This is definitely NOT something they should be proud of!

I agree that most send money home, if they have family there, but you make it sound like an invasion and that it is bad for them to send money to Mexico. it is not bad, it is helping the poorest of the poor in Mexico. Why is it bad to send money to poor in Mexico, but good to send it to help kids in Guatemala or Africa? Its not my money, it is the money THEY EARNED.
