stainless steel bowls (NOT plastic)
break away collar - even if inside only.. and all cats should be inside ONLY
litter box
litter (non-scented clumping)
scoop
toys ... lots but dont leave them all out at the same time.. cats get bored of the same toys so hide some and rotate them every week or so
brush

food - BEST YOU CAN BUY - grocery store and Wal mart food is CRAP - pet supply stores offer better foods and when you feed a better food your cat will eat LESS and POOP less.. so even though the food costs more - you use less so save money in the long run...

I have 2 adorable kitties that I adopted when they were only a couple months old. I've had them for 2 years now.
You will need:

a food bowl
a water bowl
a litter box-----tip----save grocery store bags and use them to dispose of the "stuff" from the litter box when you clean it. Also, I bought a litter box mat that catches all the sand under the litter box.
some type of scratching item--cats have different preferences. One of my cats likes a vertical carpet scratching post, the other likes a horizontal cardboard one.
You will need toys, but you don't have to buy all of them. Many cats are very pleased by a string trailed on the ground. My cats like the little "fishing poles" with a feather on the end. You can buy them at most pet stores.
Cats also love treats, and most cats--not usually kittens--love catnip. There are different kinds, so you can experiment with that too.
If you are going to let your cat roam outdoors, (only do this if you live in an area free of dangerous wild animals such as coyotes) you will need to buy it a collar and I.D. tag. These can really help.
I hope you enjoy your new cat! Good luck! They're awesome!

Needs=
1. Food-any brand will work but some cats might only like certain food.

2. Litter box-There are a lot of different types do the research and decide which will be best for your cat.

3. Litter-Do the same for number 2 fro the same reasons aswell.

4. Dishes-You will need something to put the food and water in.

5. Collar+tag-You will need this incase your cat runs away.

6. Toys-If your cat gets bored he/she might want to chew things up so be careful.

WANTS=
1. Scratching post-so you can teach the cat to scratch that not you.

2. Bed-If you would like your cat to have its own place to sleep.

3. go ahead look around what ever you'd like to get your cat for a christmas gift...thats always fun!

Happy holidays!

Before wasting money on cat toys, buy a couple 1/2 gallons of milk and save the rings from them. Cats love these! A cardboard box with holes in them. A paper bag.

If you buy any toys that have strings, don't leave your cat unattended with them. Some cats love to chew strings, and that can be very bad.

As for scratching posts, you don't have to invest a lot of money in those either. You can get cardboard ones that come with a bag of dried catnip. My girls love these! I also have carpet remnants that they love.

I'll also reiterate glass or metal food bowls (plastic can cause acne), a GOOD quality food from a pet store, a brush, nail clippers and toothbrush. The sooner you get them used to having their teeth brushed, the better. I'm talking about a cat toothbrush of course, the kind you find in a pet store.

Find where a good vet is get her looked over and get her shots.

first a cat need to eat so get her some cat food and a bowl for and water

second a cat needs a place for the food to go so get her a litter box and some kitty litter (I think the most reasonable one is Feline Pine.) I would just buy one brand because cats can be picky.

Next if she has her claws get a scratching post or some thing like that.

Then i would get her some toys you can buy them in a pet store or your local department store or even some grocery stores or make them your self. One that my cat loves is the cap of a milk jug. I just throw it across the floor and she chases it. She likes that more than any of the ones I buy. Who knew!

A bed is nice but not necessary because her favorite place will be next to you.

My cat likes to lay in the sun. So a window perch placed in a sunny window.

And the most important thing: you to love her and pet her and cuddle with her

:)

(I said her because mines a her but he could be a him. don't want offend)

Litter Tray
Litter
3 food dishes - one for dry food, wet food and water.
**TOP QUALITY** Kitten Food
Scratching Pole
Basket - for sleeping.
Toothbrush & Toothpaste - good to start early so he learns to be OK with it.
Toys - balls with a bell inside, toy mouse etc.
Grooming Supplies - comb or brush to remove shedding fur.
Litter Tray Liners
Poop Scooper
Spray Gun - fill with water, when cat misbehaves, spray a bit of water.
Cat Carrier - to hold the cat while going to the vet and bring home.
Vet Appointment - for any shots, worming medicine, check up, micro-chipping etc.
Cat Collar - make sure it has his name on it and your phone number.
Cat Leash/Lead - If your cat is an inside cat, he will still love to go outside. This is a great way to take him/her out for short periods of time for a little walk or a bit of fun.
Treats - treats are a great way to praise your kitty. You can get treats that are healthy for their teeth which is great. Also maybe CATNIP. They LOVE that, just be careful, he will get very HYPER!
EMERGENCY MONEY - always keep "emergency" money away for any emergency vet visits, emergency surgery, de-sexing etc.

Goodluck with your new kitten! Might I suggest that maybe later when this little kitty has settled in, maybe get another kitten. I've currently got 3 female kittens (8 weeks, 12 weeks and 7 months) and they get along great! It was a little tense when the new kitties came home but now they get along fine. They sleep together, eat together and play together. If you're getting a male, I suggest a female so you don't have as many territorial problems with them.

Litterbox, good clumping litter, food dishes, proper food according to age, brush, collar with name tag, TOYS. They have these really cool toys that are round and have 3 open slots where a fake mouse spins inside. Cats love those!!! You will also want a scratch post with carpeting on it to give him/her something safe to scratch on. Good luck, cats are great!
