I have just painted a chocolate feature wall in my kitchen and would now like to add a collection of framed family photes but not sure what colour frame will go?
The kitchen is brown colour with a hint of burgandy, appliances silver, brown sofa and brown rug ( have 2 young kids so brown is recomended ). I am now afraid there are to many browns so would like to brighten the room a little, the rest of the walls are a sandy colour.

Brown looks nice with Ivory or Mocha or Light Beige. Too much brown can make a room look small. Break it up with lots of wall activity.
You can even incorporate the color theme of the room on canvas.
Buy frameless painters canvas then paint the colors sceme of the room across the canvas. You can use a small roller (6") and paint lines, circles, or dots in patterns. It really brings a room together.
Good Luck

Black frames with white matting. Have all photos in black and white. Would really draw the eye to the wall of photos. A real pop of color to an otherwise neutral room. Would also blend the appliances in with the rest of room. Add a few splashes of your third color choice of burgandy around the room within your accessories, vases, pillows on sofa, etc. Understated elegance!

You already have the answer in your question: Go with silver. Not shiny silver, but sorta like brushed chrome. Not only will this lighten up the browns, but since silver reflects light, you will get more light and it is also considered a "neutral" color so you can be sure it will match with everything.

You might even want to consider taking your photos to a place that can print them in the old fashioned sepia brown like an antique photo.

I would use an ecru color for the mattes surrounding the frame if there are any.

if you're going for a more modern look go with black frame white background and in the center the featured pic. if you want a more cozy look sing your walls are all in the "browns" family of colors I would go with cherry wood frames or darker browns with a cream color background(border) and picture in the centere. also I would hang different shapes and sizes..like oval, round, square.. it'll give you that antique, cozy feeling.
