Something easy as I tend to burn things. I can make 5 minute fudge and put cookie dough on a baking sheet, but I want to be a little more adventurous. Any ideas?

How about chocolate covered strawberries? Just take the Dolci brand chocolate (it's served in a microwavable container) and then dip the strawberries in. place on a tray and it's something everybody will love.

I would ask if you can bring an appetizer or a dessert or maybe some sparkling cider.
Ask only so you don't interfere with what the hostess is planning.
A good appetizer is spinach dip...
So easy and it never fails to please.
Do this the day before the party:
1 box of frozen spinach... thawed and drained
1 cup of Mayo
1 cup of sour cream
1 package of Knorrs Veggie (or leek) dry soup mix
1 can of chopped water chestnuts
1 bunch of sliced green onions (to taste)
1 baguette of sourdough bread
1 sourdough bread round.
Mix all the ingredients together... let it sit in the fridge for 1-2 hours. Then taste it and see if it needs more sour cream or mayo... usually it won't.
Hollow out the round and fill with the dip. Save the bread you pulled out to put around the dip for eating and garnish. Leave the filled round in the fridge overnight.
Just before you go to the party, or once you get there, slice up the baguette for pieces to dip into the dip.
This is a no fail yummy dip!!
Dessert... make whatever you like....
Sparkling cider... well that one is easy and you are off the hook.
Have fun!!

If you're worried about something burning, I would like to suggest using a crockpot, you can cook so many things with it and not worry about it burning!

Reuben Dip
1 (16 ounce) jar sauerkraut, drained
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
2 cups shredded cooked corned beef
1/4 cup thousand island dressing

In a slow cooker, combine the sauerkraut, cream cheese, Swiss cheese, corned beef and thousand island dressing. Cover, and cook on high for 45 minutes if you're in a hurry, low for longer if you're not, or just until hot and cheese is melted. Stir occasionally while cooking. Serve with cocktail rye or crackers.

Sausage Bites
2 lbs. Hillshire Farm pre-cooked sausage, sliced
2½ cups Sauerkraut
2 bottles or cans Lager Beer
8 cloves Garlic, fresh minced
1 cup Onions, sliced

Place the Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage, sauerkraut, lager beer, minced garlic and sliced onions in a crock pot.
Simmer over a medium heat for 2-3 hours.
Serve with Spicy Mustard
