No, Godzilla didn't destroy a city just because he could. He was just searching for his lost nuts! He probably thought King Kong stole them.

Yeah... only it was almost always Tokyo.
For the record though he attacked New York once, and some other similar monsters (mothra, batora, hedora, gigan, gidora, biolante, mechagodzilla) have attacked other cities as well as tokyo...
