I have several female friends to buy christmas gifts for. None of them are former girlsfriends but I am involved. Is buying them beauty gifts like lotion and perfurme a bad thing?

not for me...that sounds good...How about getting a gift certificate to Bath and Body works or Victoria secret.

Some people are allergic to perfumes and other beauty products, so I wouldn't recommend them as gifts unless you know exactly what to buy. A book, journal, music or a gift card to her favorite clothing store would also be a good gift. It's embarassing when someone buys you a gift set of bath products whose smell you can't stomach or a bottle of perfume you don't care for.

I would stay away from the perfume but something from a place like Bath & Body or The Body Shop would probably be appreciated (no massage oil). My husband has more girl friends than I ever had and that wouldn't offend me at all. Now if he's getting them something for Victoria Secret, we've got a big problem.

depends on what the relationship between you and the receiver is like. If they're just casual friends, maybe fragranced soap would be more suitable. Lotion and perfume may not be to their taste (hence simply wasted/recycled)

Why lotion and perfume- that's booooorrrinnnggg. Get them something that you've talked about, maybe an inside joke like "haha, books about penguins are so funny" so you get them a book about penguins. Unique gifts are always better than generic ones.
