I'm going to see Corteo next week and my boyfriend (who surprised me with tickets) said that I would need to buy a nice dress, and that he would wear his Class A's (he's in the Army). Is this really neccesary or is Cirque du Soleil (also known as Cirsus Ole) a very formal occasion? I've heard that it wasn't. We're going to have dinner with the cast before the show. Our tickets were really expensive so I don't want to show up there too casual or too formal and have to leave, you know? Any ideas? lol

There doesn't seem to be a dress code...

However, given the fact that your tickets were expensive and you're having dinner with the cast, think "first date" clothing, something that says "I'm honored to be here"...

I have been to several Cirque du Soleils. You will see people dressed from nice to casual. Why don't you just wear what you would wear to church or a wedding? Don't go out and buy something new if you don't want to spend the money. You certainly do not need something formal. You would be overdressed.

Dress as you would to attend any non-formal event--Its not a fancy affair. The Cirque is a family-oriented show, and there will be families with small kids there, too. Also, most cirque shows are near or in resorts or amusement locations (ie Disney World, Las Vegas...) and tourists don't usually dress up for much, as they only have what's in their suitcases to begin with.

Blue jeans and a nice top is just fine. Its definitely not a black-tie event (although the price of the ticket is deceiving :) ). Dress respectively (its respect to the performers), but nothing fancy is necessary or expected.

I went to Cirque just last year. What people wore varied greatly. There were some men in Suits, others in pants, some in jeans. Ladies wore anything from jeans to dresses. You are having dinner with the cast? How about for you, a skirt that goes slightly below your knees (summer/fall type skirt) and a nice shirt.. Not jeans. For your boyfriend, some nice pants (not too nice, but def. no jeans) and a dress-type shirt. Tie/No Tie, it's optional. He can wear a tie, and if he feels overdressed can take it off and put it in your bag. The following links are of clothing examples that might be appropriate.

I think if he wore his Class A's it would be over the top. This may be just me (and I've dated military men), but when a guy wears his Class A's in public it's just screaming, "look at me! Come pat me on the back!" Tell him to wear nice civvies and you can wear a semi-casual dress or non-denim pants with a nice top. I'd definitely skip jeans since you're having dinner with the cast before the show - otherwise, most show-goers range from business casual dress to the pretty casual. Enjoy the show, whatever you wear! The Cirque is amazing!

It depends on where it is hosted. I have been to O! in two different places and one of them I had my partner wearing tuxedo.
The fact that you will have dinner with the cast before the show, allows you a more casual way of dressing, although I would stick to a fashion stylish thing.
Class and style are never too much.

It depends--is it an indoor performance, or have they set up a tent? If it's a tent, something warm. Indoors? Wear whatever the heck you want. You're going to see lots of different levels of dressing up (or down).
