I know that persistently forgetting where something was left (e.g. keys) is a sign. My father doesn't do that, but what about the following. He will sometimes tell a joke or a story, only to tell it about 20 to thirty minutes later. This does not happen every day, so I do not want to bring up the possibility with him. I think he would become angry anyway, and not go to a doctor.

Alzheimer's is a real specific disease that can only be diagnosed after the person is dead. They do a biopsy of the brain. Although, there certainly are symptoms. What you describe could be a symptom of Alzheimer's. It could also be a symptom of Dementia. It could also just be a sign of forgetfulness, which we all have. And it could be his way of not feeling heard. Does anyone respond to him when he tells his jokes?

we just had this debate with my own Grandmother doing the exact same thing. Tests were ran because it can be a sign, but it is also a normal sign of aging as well. By the way my Grandmother did not have Alzheimers. :)

It's not a sign of Alzheimer's. Everyone does that as they get older.
