She has been clean for a month now after detoxing at a hospital. She is attending IOP classes 4 times a week and started her 12 step program with a sponser she has had for about 2 weeks. Is there anything else she can be doing to get better and prevent drug use?

Methadone

Although, some people are successful at quitting heroin cold turkey with counseling and support of family/friends; current research shows that Methadone is the best treatment for heroin addiction. It can prevent withdrawal symptoms, decrease or prevent drug cravings, and block the euphoric effects of narcotics (provided that the person is given the appropriate dose).

Although, please understand that some people need to be maintained on methadone for life (it is not a quick fix, although some can be weaned off successfully). And that even with methadone some may falter at times.

I saw a story on the news a month ago about a father in Utah. His daughter was addicted to drugs and she wouldn't admit but he knew what she was up to because of the way she looked. She was in the hospital in and out and then she died. Before she died, the father went on a mission, finding out who is supplying her with these drugs. He went through her cell phone, computer, you name it. some say that he invaded his daughter's privacy but he was in a desperate situation to save his daughter. She would lock herself in her room for days and wouldn't come out and thats what happened the day she died. She received another text message from the drug dealer saying that he'll come to her window and give her the drugs. Anyways, I guess u still have a chance with your daughter. This father is still on a mission eventhough his daugghter is dead . He works together with the cops to get these drug dealers off of the streets. I know u asked what can she do to prevent this from happening again. shes doing as much as she can. you need to keep a close eye on her, doesn't matter how long shes been clean. you can try and look at where her supply comes from and report it to the police.

Sounds like she is doing well so far, but if she relapses, Methadone is a good choice to help with the withdrawls. Of course it is substituting one drug for another, but it is legal and help alot.
