64 bit architecture supports up to 8 gb of Memory (RAM) thats doesnt mean that since you buy a 64 bit computer you can have 8gb, its just supported up to that much. most 32bit desktops support 2-4gb while laptops only 1-2gb. future applications will start seeing more and more 64 bit processors. but by the time that happens your current computer will be outdated.
Pentium D i do believe means Dual Core which means 2 processers. Its kind of the same as the cheaper version of hyperthreading (not hyper transport). hyperthreading is one processor split into 2 halves so if you have a 3ghz computer hyperthreading will make it 2 1.5ghz. with dual core, you have 2 3ghz processors. so depending on the application you'll note a slight increase in processing speed. Note that just because a processor has a higher frequency (ghz) doesnt make it faster.
Computers of the near future will have quad core (4 processors) with hyperthreading (8 total processors) 4 physical + 4 Virtual

Im pretty sure i answered your question...and more....
