according to the scripture Jesus was put on the cross on friday afternoon and by night fall he was in the tomb.

according to the sign of prophet jonah, Jesus was supposed to spend 3 days and three nights in the heart of the earth. so.....

friday night
saturday morning
saturday night
sunday morning mary magdalen goes to the tomb and finds it open and Jesus is not there.

so he spent 2 nights and 1 day not 3 days and 3 nights.

why is this contradiction???

The three days and three nights seems to be a figure of speech. We do know that in Rabinnic thought any part of a day and a night was seen as the whole. They would use the term of a "day and a night" for any part of one. Notice we never hear about 40 days and 39 nights, or 3 days and 4 nights. It would seem quite strange that all the days rounded so nicely. If we do not understand it this way, then there really seems to be no way to reconcile it. Jesus was not burried for 3 24-hour periods. It is true that some put the crucifixion on a Wednesday. This is however a minority position among scholars and it still does not solve the issue. Wednesday plus three days still only brings us to Saturday. It seems best to understand Jesus' statement in light of the Rabinnic thought.

If youre using a calendar with the dates on them, keep in mind that they are roman based calendars and they change holidays to suits themselves. the popes decided what holidays when where and even changed months around, April used to be first, september was 7 not 9th month, december was 10th month, not 12th. these roman dates dont match the jewish dates

Sorry! You must be Catholic or else, have embraced this Catholic doctrine that Christ died on Friday.

The easiest way to even come close to the REAL DAY He died, is by taking the words of Christ Himself in regards to the 3 days & 3 nights he was supposed to be dead and buried in the heart of the earth, and apply that BACKWARDS from the time of the resurrection!

Joh 20:1 Now on the FIRST DAY of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb EARLY, while it was STILL DARK, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

Clearly when Mary came to the tomb VERY EARLY Sunday morning WHILE STILL DARK, Jesus HAD ALREADY RISEN!

Obviously he arose sometime on Saturday!

Perhaps he was crucified on a Wednesday. The idea he was crucified on Friday is a guess. The Bible doesn't say exactly the days. It could be that he was crucified on Passover, the next day was the First day of Unleavened Bread (a high holy day), Friday was preparation day, Saturday the sabbath, so the women had to go to the tomb sun down on Saturday after sunset (or early Sunday morning). I think people want Jesus to be raised from the dead on Sunday in order to justify worshipping on that day rather have to deal with the idea that it is the day men would worship the sun god. What day Jesus was resurrected doesn't have anything to do with the day of worship, or which day is the sabbath. Consider focusing on the fact that God raised him from the dead instead of which day it this happened. Worship God everyday. Our sabbath is the sabbath God made at the beginning, which never ended and is not one day, but a continual rest for eternity.

Actually Jesus died and was raised on the third day. He was crucified on friday, rested on saturday and was raised on sunday. I am not sure where you got your scripture reference but the bible does not say after three days and then the resurrection but if you read in the book of John chapter20,verse 1, it clearly states 'on the first day', which is sunday: sunday is the first day of the week. Mary Magdalene went to the tomb where Jesus was laid only to discover He was risen and ALIVE. So I'm not sure who told after three days then the resurrection but obviously there is some misinterpretation. I hope this clears things up for you.

The Bible doesn't say that Jesus died on Friday, that is mostly Catholic teaching and is one of those myths like there were 3 wise men, or Jesus was born on the 25th of December. Most people who have studied it figure that He really died on a Wednesday.
Christians normally accept the idea that any part of a day was considered a full day in Jewish culture, but that is pure nonsense. It is a good question and many theologians have wrestled with it over the years.
The problem in the Bible arises because the Bible says that the next day was the Sabbath, but you must remember there were a number of sabbaths connected with the holidays that were not on Saturday. A Sabbath was a day of rest.

Show me scripture in the King James Version Bible that says He was put to rest on Friday/Show me where it says FRIDAY/you can't

Luke 24:1 Now upon the first [day] of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain [others] with them.

But does it say SUNDAY, NO

He died and rose 3 days later

You are right. It wasn't 72 hours.

The Jewish day starts at sundown. If we assume that the people that were putting Jesus in the tomb met their goal, then he was in the tomb before sundown Friday:

Part of Friday (until Sundown)
All of the Sabbath (Sundown Friday to Sundown Saturday)
Part of Sunday (Sundown Saturday until his Resurrection)

If Jesus had said two days, sceptics would say he was late. Belief is always a matter of faith. I have found Jesus to a reliable teacher. His life, character and teaching have never ceased to amaze me, and I am still learning.

Sorry, you do not know the custom of the Jews. To them from the time of His death, which is Friday afternoon, when He was put in the tomb, just before the coming of the Sabbath day, was already counted as one day, even if it is only one hour. The following day is of course the Sabbath day, or Saturday, which started from the evening of Friday when the sun went down until the following day, Saturday or Sabbath when the sun went down. After that he was in the half part of the Sunday, which is the evening part, counted from sundown Saturday. That to the Jewish way of counting days is counted as one day already.
Another explanation is that Jesus was actually in the hands of the wicked people from Thursday evening, helpless, suffering and as prisoners of the devil, and He was released early on the morning of Sunday.
What are we to argue against the prophets of God and Jesus Himself.

The Bible would not say that. Jesus became lifeless, he became in the grave (Hades or Sheol) and subconscious as are all others there. The demons are not in hell or the grave, yet people who have been on earth previously the flood are sure, or in penitentiary, and can't act. The scripture at a million Peter 3:18 -20 says: "Why, even Christ died as quickly as continually appropriate to sins, a righteous [guy or woman] for unrighteous ones, that he would lead YOU to God, he being placed to dying in the flesh, yet being made alive in the spirit. in this [state] additionally he went his way and preached to the spirits in penitentiary, who had as quickly as been disobedient whilst the persistence of God became waiting in Noah’s days, whilst the ark became being built, wherein some human beings, it relatively is, 8 souls, have been carried accurately by way of the water." Even it relatively is says he preached to the spirits in penitentiary AFTER he became made alive in the spirit, or resurrected. As for in spite of is asserted in the Talmud, Apostles Creed, Athanasian Creed or e book of Mormon, it is not God's observe the Bible.

Guess you are grumpy. at least you sound mad. There are a few different answers to your question. Did you know there are different calendars being used in the world today. And back then they did not have Greenwich (spelled wrong?) mean time as a reference point. That was 2000 years ago for heavens sake. Which day he went into the tomb is sort of up for grabs.
