He may not understand that he can do it by himself. Most of the time parents say "tell me when you have to go potty" when potty training as when they are older as a reinforcment to not go alone because of strangers or the adult knows that they can't safely go by themselves. Bear with him; he's still young. Try to support your wife. Trust that she is doing her best. Help her out when you can.

toddlers do whatever is reinforced. When he tells her, she responds, obviously in a way that he likes. Next time it happens, she needs to tell him what to do, and let him try it. It may be half-way wrong the first few times, and it may require a little clean up, but a few times of doing the hard thing will yield incredible results in the long run. He needs independence, and right now he is dependent upon her.

My four year old tells everyone in the room she has to go, and she doesn't like to go by herself. I think toddlers become accustomed to having company from being potty trained, and it just takes a bit to move on from there. It also takes time to gain confidence when you're little to drive that porcelain bus by yourself. It will pass.

We teach children to go pee by praising them when they do a "good" job. Why wouldn't he tell her, he wants to be praised. (And he should be)

Don't worry, my brother in law still screams out to his wife before he goes to the bathroom and he's 33. Figure that one out.

She has probably somehow conditioned this behavior. Maybe she babies him. Getting the extra attention he gets when he has to go to the bathroom (mom holds his hand, walks him to the bathroom, waits for him, helps him wash his hands etc...) probably makes him feel special. She should start to wean him off of this, and replace this with praise for doing it by himself. He has to learn how to do that eventually.

The toilet is still a big and scary thing for your son. It is good to see he is asking for someone to take him to the toilet. Sometimes they need help getting up to the toilet. Watching them is a good idea. It ensures that they don't accidentally fall in her get scared whilst going. It is normal for a child to ask to go to the toilet. They well eventually get the hang of it and go by themselves just don't get angry with them or they will be afraid of going.

Because hes use to it. At the potty training age, we have taught kids to tell us when they have to go so we will be there to make sure they did it right. If he is fully potty trained then just let him know that he doesnt have to tell someone first, that he should just go when he needs to.

Because he is only two years old. The fact that he asks tells me he's probably advanced. Girls are easier. Be very patient. Otherwise you get an anal idiot.
