They dont. They used to because it was the quickest way to riches for a black. But, these days, they can make it bigger faster in football, basketball. So, only the flyweight sixe black guys still go into boxing. That's why boxing isnt an interesting sport anymore.

blacks are really into boxing because of many reasons:machismo, poverty, and compition. many blacks cannot play football or basketball because so many other blacks are the for tryouts..copitition,they all can be good but only so maMY CAN BE A PART OF THE Team. poverty to box means you can feed your faMILY WITHOUT A DIPLOMA without going to college of having a trade, you can come out of prison and become a multimillionaire ask benard hopkins.machismo some men are challanged on the streets and realize if they can survive on the streets by scapping for free why not get paid millions to do what you have the trade for. people don't understand that boxing is an art and if your not into it you'll never understand the beauty of it. but for you people who sit on the couch and yell"right,left,hook,bodyblow..your uppercut!! try just hitting a bag fo 3min.you'll look at the art diffrent..and that's the truth!

the reason is simple....economics. you always find boxers come from usually poor, deprived areas, traditionally the youth clubs, etc had gyms to keep the young kids entertained and disciplined. if you look back to the 20's and 30's many fighters were of jewish origin, irish, italian, german etc,all immigrants and living in slums etc, later on the main fighters were poorer black youths..this applies to other countries besides the usa..in the uk most fighters before the 70;s were predominately, white poor working class, then with unemployment and more 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants from the west indies and african countries we got black british fighters, i now think the younger blacks are seeing better ways to get rich, and more oppertunities at work etc,and seem to be abandoning the boxing gym,

Back in the day, it was one of the better ways for young black men to succeed. Many of your ex-champions of black descent were from very poor background, so the determination to escape that was there.

They dont anymore, your best heavyweight champion is probably playing outside linebacker in the NFL. They use to choose because it was a way to get out of poverty.
