I learned this trick when I was working at a restaurant and had to pour a Guinness for the first time. Normally it takes a lot of time and patience to pour a "perfect Guinness." I couldn't pour the guinness slowly enough so that it wouldnt foam to the point of looking like a milkshake.
Take the mug and put it down over the opened can/bottle of beer, so that the open part of the glass is over the beer. Then, holding the beer and glass together, flip it over so that the beer starts pouring into the mug. Doing it this way makes the beer pour out slowly enough so that it doesn't get too foamy. As the level of beer goes up in the glass, just continually lift the bottle/can of beer straight up until it's done pouring. you will get the PERFECT pour every single time and it takes less time than angling the glass.

Tip the mug on its side and pour the beer into the mug along the side. Do not pour into the beer in the mug, this will cause it to foam, but a little foam is good, but that is a personal choice.

tip the mug toward the right or left which ever hand you are pouring with and pour, don't splash the beer into the mug and level the mug as it gets more full you should have a nice mug of beer with some foam but not too much

Tilt the mug as far over as you can and slowly pour in the beer, as it fill slowly raise the mug upright. When it close to finished I lift the beer up from the mug to give it about a 1/2 inch head.

tip the mug on one side and gently pour the beer in it. dont splash it because the air that you will get from splashing it will create a lo of foam. you can also let the fluid slide against the side of the mug when you pour it to have even lesser foam. happry drinking!^_^

there is not some thing incorrect with putting 12 oz..of beer in a 16oz mug. in case you tried to do it any incorrect way round, then i'd call you dumb (16 oz..beer into 12 oz..mug). yeah, there is not some thing incorrect right here in any respect.
