There is such diversity - there is something for everyone. I love the theatre, the opera, the ballet, the concerts. The Metropolitan Museum is one of the finest in the world. We also have the Frick, the Guggenheim, The Cloisters, the Museum of Natural History. There is no place in the country that even comes close. For people who are into sports, we have great sports teams. Shopping is wonderful - we have Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdales - full eight story buildings, not little outlets at boring white bread malls. The food is the greatest - you can get anything you want - from the cheapest little ethnic restaurants to the most ridiculously priced eateries. On any given day, you can see film crews and actors working in the streets. We have a great library system, and, until Barnes & Noble chased them out, we had the best bookstores in the country.
Except for one year in San Diego, I'm lucky enough to have lived here all my life. I went to NYU - I never wanted to go to school out of town.
Public transporation is wonderful; the buses and trains run all night. There are very few places where you can live without a car.
The worst thing here is the cost of living - rents are in the stratosphere. The cost of parking and auto insurance here is more than a lot of families pay for rent. Of course, on the up side, New York is a bargain hunter's dream.

i guess the best is the mix of different cultures, there are people here from all over the world, it's very diverse. The ease of getting around, being able to find anything you could want, eating at the best restaurants, the nightlife.
The worst would be all the tourists and the subway during rush hour (really sucks).

Flexibility, variety and public transportation. There's something to do at all hours. Restaurants, theatre, shopping.
Worst ; cost of housing, people who litter, potholes and alternate side parking.
