depends..there are different types of dreams.
some are completely from the mind- and memory... a story your brain likes to rearrange, like visualizing thoughts in your head.
some are outer body experiences where your soul travels into the timeless realm of the Absolute,
or to different dimensions- (some not so nice places too-nightmares) where you can be visited by other consciousnesses- again could be a positive or negative experience.
and then there is the combo- your Consciousness can have an experience that is both with the mind and out of the body at the same time.

Dreams come from your mind sorting through things you need now (the immediate memory) and stuff you need for later (long term memory). This is so that you can function in the morning as the person above said. Your dreams come from the unconscious mind, read up on Psychology

I think dreams come from a number of places. Places like or normal daily lives. Different layers of consciousness. Emotions visualized. and Straight from GOD almighty too.
