Ok you're cute right? You don't have to be super sexy or anything (I was never more than cute and I bartended and made a ton of money!!!) So here's what you do- you find out who's hiring. You find yourself a good push up bra and a low cut shirt and some hoochie pants. Then you so your makeup a little more hoochie than you think you should. Get your hair all prettyfied. Then go to the bar ask to speak to the owner. If it's a man turn on the flirt- I know it sounds weird but that's what your job will be if you work there. If it's a woman turn on the charm with the hardcore edge- women bar owners want girls who are gonna kick a** and keep the guys in their place.

And as to the question of experience- What I learned is to not go to the fancy chain restaurant. Go to the crappy place with the pool tables and the shuffleboard. I know it sounds sucky but they will hire you with no experience and train you themselves and you'll end up making a ton of money because you have regulars that will find you totally endearing because they watched you grow as a bartender.

Bartending school is a joke. My fiance went to one, and paid a lot of money, I never went, and know more than he does. I started out as a server at a sports bar/restaurant. I decided I wanted to bartend, so I bugged the managers until they let me train. Learning from an experienced, good bartender is much better than any school. By the way, if you find a place that uses jiggers, instead of free pouring, run away! The management are going to be awful to work for, and the tips aren't going to be nearly as good. Good luck.

All Bars will want some sort of experience unless you know some one to get you in. And drinking in bars a lot does not count as experience. Get to know a Bar owner or bartender and ask if you can shadow them on a slow nights until you pick it up. It looks a lot easier than it is! I owned a bar for a couple of years and I know some people can do it and some can't! Don't waste your money on one of those schools until you have exhausted some one training you! Good luck.
