It's a great thing if you can afford it. I work in hematology/oncology and see people all of the time that need bone marrow transplants to treat their leukemia and need to find a donor with a good match. With the stem cells in the banked blood, you have a great supply of your baby's own cells to use so you don't need to find a donor. I wish the technology was around when I was born. And who knows what else scientists will be able to do with your stem cells a few years from now. If you can afford it, do it.

An umbilical cord blood bank is a great thing. Cord blood contains a lot of stem cells. Among other things, it can be used for bone marrow transplants. There's no reason not to keep the cord and its blood. As others have said, it would just be destroyed anyway.

We donated it to our community twine blood financial agency. It became unfastened, and this way i know it relatively is going to somebody who can use it by using fact it relatively is totally uncommon for anybody to surely use their own banked blood. this way i know it is not going to waste and if we ever have a want for twine blood, the financial agency is there for us.

Why not? If you don't bank the blood, it'll just go to waste. It's not like you were planning on keeping it. (Were you? Ew.)

Yes! You may be able to use the blood to treat diseases in the future. Think of it as personal health insurance....

Not for the prices they charge you to keep it frozen, unfortunately. It's out of most people's reach.
