After five days we went ahead and took her back to the dog park as she wanted to play and run with other dogs. do you think this will cause her any long term problems?

The main reason for keeping the dogs quiet after this type of surgery (I know it's hard) is to make sure that the sutures do not tear open. Once fully healed, it will be fine BUT torn sutures can lead to infections, scar tissue, lumps and other unpleasantness.
Your dog will probably be just fine but it really is the best to keep them as quiet as possible for the period recommended by the vet. Ours said 7-10 days...We have a Border Collie....try to keep her down!!! OMG!!!
Goodluck

No, unless the stitches are torn or broken open. The reason the vet told you to keep her quiet is to help keep the incision closed. She is not healed yet. Spaying is a major operation for dogs. It takes a few days to start to heal properly. I would keep her away from playing with other dogs until she is further along in the healing process, about 2-3 weeks. You can play with her at home without any problems, but rough play with other dogs should be out until she is better. Good luck and thanks for spaying your dog.

Every veterinarian performs their spays differently. Some will put 2 ligatures around the vessels, some just one. Some with suture the incision closed using a simple continuous pattern, some with simple interrupted. Some use chromic gut (and those vets should be shot) and some use better suture like PDS and nylon. All in all - follow your veterinarians instructions. She won't miss another few days at home. Better safe then sorry (and broke with a dead dog).

It probably won't harm the dog, however, always make sure his wound is clean from sand/dirt and doesnt get wet. It does have to heal. If you see that it looks really red, sore, swollen, cut open or anything else unusual, then take him back to the vet. Make sure the dog doesn't do too much running, climbing up on beds, couches, etc. As this may cause the scar to tear open again. Just like us humans, we have to heal before playing again in order to prevent infections. Just take it easy with him and have fun. It took my dog about 8-9 days to completely heal..after that, I allowed her to play all she wanted!

No, but I'd check her incision to make sure it hasn't broke open. Our dog is so hyper and after we brang her home from the vet clinic after she was fixed, she jumped off the porch and broke open her incision. She had a huge pus sack the we had to pop and pour hydgrogen peroxide on twice a day, but it eventually went away. The vet said that we did a good job in keeping it clean and it healed really good. As long as she isn't bleeding from it or nothing is coming out...I'd say she'll be okay. Good luck!

I doubt that will be a problem. My vet gave each of my girls a 3 day recovery time for spaying. Yours is a little more cautious, it would seem.

If she's feeling good, just keep an eye on the stitches. You don't want her getting an infection. And be sure you're watching her when she plays.

It likely won't cause any long term problems, but it could cause tearing of the incision, a lump to form and other issues..please do as you were instructed by your vet for the health and well being of your puppy. You were given those instructions for a reason.
