Go to your vet and pick a capstar pill. It is a one time pill that will kill every flea on your cat for twenty four hours. It cannot be used as a preventative like frontline or advantage. After giving the pill apply either advantage or frontline and make sure you are getting as much on the skin as possible. You may want to apply in a couple of areas like on the neck, middle of back, and lower back. Make sure you aren't applying it two to three days before or after giving your cat a bath because it has to spread through the natural oils in its skin and hair. If your cat goes outside you may want to consider treating your yard because that is where it is picking them up. Go to Home Depot and get an ant killer called Over and Out, it has the same active ingredient as frontline. If it doesn't go outside then you may want to just treat your house. It's not really necessary because if your keep your cat on the flea preventative it will eventually eliminate the problem in the house. Don't use an OTC flea preventative like Hartz because alot of pets have had severe reactions to it and plus it don't work. Advantage and frontline for cats is in no way toxic to your pet even if injested so they are perfectly safe.

When I had a black lab I had the same problem! I know it's painful okay! What I did was I took the real flea drops the ones you put on dogs on my bed sheet or on the bed. If you can wash your bedding in hot water in the morning and put it back on the bed. Then put the flea drops on the sheet. So at night, you won't smell the drops and it will be dry do this every morning if you can. It depends on just how bad they are for to judge the how long it will take affect. you don't have to wash your sheet every morning in fact it's better if you don't because then it won't help because you wash it off to Quickly. On your soars from the bites you can put Germ-X or water-less hand cleaner, hand sanitizer. Which ever rings a bell! If this doesn't help by 2 months get a flea bomb you might want to go ahead and try that it didn't work for me but ot might you, if it still doesn't stop even with th bombs at a maximum I mean MAXIMUM of 3 months call an exterminator!! GOOD LUCK!! be sure to use that Germ-X it will get rid of the sores I use it on ants and other bug bites.

I have had this problem too and what I did to get rid of the worst of it was i bought some raid flea spray and sprayed the carpets all the way from one end of the house to the other making sure to try to corner the fleas off. Then while that took effect (15 minutes or so) I bathed the animals in flea shampoo i bought from the vets and then kept them in the bathroom (no carpet) until I vacummed the entire house starting where I had started to spray. Then I removed the vacumme cleaner bag and took it directly outside to the dump. after the animals were dried I brushed them and let them out as I was done with them. Then I swept and cleaned the bathroom and took the trash outside and the dirty rags and towels straight to the washer to wash them in hot water. The spray is supposed to prevent reinfestation from hacthing eggs as well and last for up to 3 months, but mine was so bad that I had to do this every two months until it was under control. You should empty the vacumme after you spray and vacumme because you are also likely to be vacumming live fleas that will find their way out.

Well i think the Bombing the house...lol...is a good idea, and the flea dip stuff. But i think to add to that, if the fleas are REALLY bad then you should take your pets to the groomers every month or every other month for a professional bath and a job well done! other then that i have never had this problem before so i'd you have tried everything and done a dang good job at taking care of your pets. Good job and happy holidays!!

Fleas suck! We had them bad for awhile.
Change your vacuum bag, the little suckers can live in there, and the eggs can get through the lining of even suppossedly "alergen reducing" vacuum bags.
Clean the space where your floor meets the wall (the baseboard..) for some reason the eggs really like it there.
If you have long grass outside, cut it, and don't let any of your pets into long grass. Flea eggs can be killed by sunlight, and in long grass they sink down into the shady part and your pet picks them up.
They make powder for the carpet, you sprinkle it on, and vacuum it up.
Thankfully we didn't have to resort to a dip, we used advantage and it worked, but we had to do it for three months.

We have a dog and a ferret and fleas get everywhere. They love meand my pets, but Im not to fond of them. You should try dipping your dog and and cats then one weekend when you have nothing to do plan something and take your pets either with you or somewhere else and flea bomb the house. Its helps out so much!

as much as you love the luxurious fur, you may need to do these things:
1. visit a groomer and have them shaved, dipped and bathed.
shaving them makes it easier for the dip/bath to work, eliminates tangles and mats where they love to hide.
2. before bringing them home or even while they are at the groomer's, flea bomb the house, follow the instructions to the letter. we used 1 flea bomb per reg. size room
3. wash all their bedding, vacuum and remove the bag and discard it( after donig the whole house)
4) ask groomer about when to use either a good flea coller and/or drops after dipping/bathing
good luck. the buggers are a pain to our furry friends and us

My brother has informed me that with his dog, a diet of brewer's yeast did the trick. He mixed it in the form of powder into the dog's food. I am not sure about cats, if your cats are finicky eaters it may require a tasty con job on your part. But once the brewer's yeast gets into your cats' bloodstreams, I believe the fleas will no longer find the blood as appetizing as it once was. Good luck.

My vet said that when you shampoo a pet with flea and tick shampoo, it only kills the fleas for THAT day. So, you will need to shampoo them, dry them, kennel them outside your home, and bomb on the same day while you stay with friends or at a hotel.
They are hard to get rid of, but you'll be glad you made all the effort!
