Well, a lot of properties are on a pcm basis. mening per calender month, as opposed to weekly. That is the norm. in the UK.
As for visas, we have a reciprical arrangement between the USA & the UK.
I have an indefinite thing to visit the US. North Americans can get one similar for the UK.
As for work permits, I had to apply for my "green card" in the USA, duly granted. A similar system applies in the UK.
If the folks are happy, and you have been offered a professional job, with proof, you get a sort of work permit. A pink one.
All therefore is well.

I am working on that move myself! You will need a work permit, and I rec commend an immigration attorney as well. I am currently going to college to get my Masters degree so I can be a skilled immigrant. E-mail me and I will give you more advice and a group of US expats in UK that can help you a lot!.
The hardest thing will be saving the money to move. I will tell you more about this, just know that the US is the only country that opens its doors & welfare system to immigrants.
