Who named these damned colours, anywhey?

They aren't named after their corresponding colours, they are named after their smells. Oranges smell like oranges and apples smell like apples.

Oranges only come in well, orange. While apples come in red, yellow, and green, and bananas come in yellow, and sometimes red, brown, or green. Why apples and bananas? They are, I think rough translations into english.
