I spent 21 and a half years in the U.S. Navy (tattoo haven) and I can count, some what more men, who regretted their tattoo's than praised them after they got older. I would say the number goes something like, 60% regret, while 40% never really cared after they got into their 40's and 50's. Two close friends who later regretted it went into two different directions with their lives. One became a born again Christen and had a naked woman tattooed down the full length of his forearm. He was so embarrassed by this tattoo that he went through very pain full surgery to have it removed and his forearm never lost those awful scares of the surgery. The other guy just outgrew his and like the other guy I first mentioned, he had his removed as well. His tattoos were not nearly as big so his scaring was minor. Anyway, this is my personnel experience and the first guy I talked about is the reason I never got one myself.

When I worked in a convalescent hospital, I used to think seeing tattoos on my patients.
They always had such great stories to tell about when they were young, and when and why they got them.
I think people who use the "old" excuse are against tattoos from the beginning. I mean, I have 4 at 24, and I will probably get a few more. I love them, they are special to me and are a reminder of certain times and places in my life.

When I see tattoos on old people, I think it's kind of neat. My great uncle fought in Korea, and when he was stationed in Japan he got a tattoo of an eagle with "Made in Japan" under it on a ribbon. Sure, it's faded. But he's had it since he was probably twenty years old. It's not stretched out either, and it's on his arm.

I agree. I recently got a tattoo on my inner bicep and a lady at work (older) asked me why I did it and wasn't I afraid of it looking stupid when I was older? I told her I didn't think so, so she made a joke about the fish being flabby and swimming up my arm (they are koi fish). I think she was trying to be funny, but it really came out rude. I'm used to it though, so it doesn't bother me much. It does get tiring trying to defend my tattoos to people though.

Who cares! when you're old, you're gonna die anyway! i say enjoy your youth, get tattoos if you want them, and enjoy them while they're not wrinkly. Cuz when you're old, no one cares. When i see an old guy/girl with a wrinkly faded tattoo, i know that person live his/her life the way she wanted to and not the way people want him/her to. Worry free and to the fullest.

I know what you mean...who says we all get fat when we're older? That seems to be the assumption all these people make...I don't know about you, but I don't plan on getting fat when i age. And when you get old the majority of your wrinkles are on your hands and face...I mean you would have to be freaking ancient to have wrinkled biceps or calves! It's the oldest and lamest excuse for being a wuss and not getting a tattoo!

it's mostly the negative anti tattoo people who are spouting their "old" junk.
honestly, by the time i am old and wrinkly i don't care if my tattoos are too because tattoos or not, i'd be wrinkly.
there will be so many other wrinkly tattooed people it won't be weird, it will be common. these people act like the one person will be the ONLY one
i love my tattoos and plan to love them forever.

Good point! I have a bunch of little tattoos, and one BIG one on my calf. I don't really worry about what they will look like when I'm older. I know my grandkids will think I am the bomb!

Ha ha! I guess some people are trying to get people out of doing it or they are just thinking about the future and the appearance of the ink later in life.
