People do. If you were going to a dinner party or house warming, it would be appropriate. i have no idea why some one would give you wine as a christmas or b-day present, i would be very insulted if someone gave me beverage as a present.

It's not a tacky gift if both you and the person receiving the gift actually know something about wine and you give them a good quality bottle. Wine can be very expensive, so often people don't buy good quality bottles for themselves. I love receiving it from people.

Wine is good when you don;t know the people very well it is always a safe bet and can be very cost effective while not looking cheap, wine can be bought for any occasion, if you feel its tacky get a nice wine bag to give it in, glam it up!

Sure I would for christmas people drink on Christmas and mostly it's champagne or some kind of wine and other occasions would be like a promotion or something.

As a guest to dinner, a housewarming present, Christmas or other holiday present, birthday, etc. People enjoy a good wine and conversation.

Best wishes.

people give it to maybe the host of a party, or as a house warming gift. sometimes weird people give it to people they don't know that well for birthdays or Christmas. wedding anniversaries are where people give champagne to the couple.

if by "tacky" you mean "quite common" or "holy ****, i can't believe you didn't know that people give bottles as presents," then yes, very "tacky."

Yes. All the time.

There's some people that don't drink, though. So in that case, it wouldn't be very good.
